Title: Unplanned, horribly executed ...
Description: A topic about nubbish forums and sites.

Axion - November 13, 2006 07:43 AM (GMT)
I have a general complaint to address the internet world with, specifically the Metroid fan world. I am sure it has been on the minds of several other people, even if not anyone at this forum.

Exluding certain places, like here, for example, I am getting so sick of all the Metroid fan sites and Metroid forums that are so viably pointless in their existance. Ya know, its like, honestly, does everybody have to have their own Metroid website and their own Metroid forums and their own Metroid fangame? Really! I didnt know that!

Now look. If you think you can hack it, by creating your own Metroid [fill in the blank], then thats fine. If you do so, do it with style and class. There needs to be something that sets you apart from the next "OMG teH meteroida DARK phZN samUs fORUm gAme sitE!!!one!!" Because, what happens is, several people join your (stated above) creation, and then it dies. You try to keep it going with pointless topics and getting a bunch of noob members, but .. face it. It dies.

What should happen is all those people should join a larger community like MHQ, or someplace that has a good foundation (like here) to keep the place going. I mean really. Do we need ten thousand different Metroid forums that are horribly put together, with graphics that strain the eyes and topics about nothing? No. We need to stay dedicated to places like this so we can keep them alive.

And thats my rant for this month, hope you all enjoyed, add your thoughts freely.

Edit by Anubis: Moved topic to "Advertisements" due to the fact that
"Gen. Discussion" 's pinned topics are too many and this topic's main idea is closely related to "Advertisements".

n00bs that had to have ther own forum...ah...the memories of how MHQ got started...

<_<;

But anywho, I can agree with Axion in the sense that not everyone needs to make there own site/forum. NOw if you think you can bring something unique to the community, it's of good quality, and it's non-n00bish, then go for it. But if you're making it just so you can be the boss of your own place so you can tell all your friends, "Look at me, I run a website," then please, don't waste your time creating something that will die within a few days.

On the other hand, sites/forums like those tend to keep n00bish people like that occupied. In other words, it gives them a place to spam how they want and set there own rules. And while we welcome anyone to MHQ, if they want to do what they want and not follow our rules (which are easy to abide by, by the way), then they can go off and make there own little happy place and watch it become so inactive that they themselves lose interest.

*looks at post*

Whoa...it seems like that was my little rant for the month as well, but I appreciate you bringing this to everyone's attention...

I did one of these a while back but everyone ignored it and let me to rot alone in the corner.
I used to care about noobs and their forum since they do make it much harder to create an active forum. But since I realised it does make them sorta learn about forums and keeps them away from spamming up good forums I support them. I also realised I was wasting my time caring about noobs.

I have my own forum. It has 4 members. Me, Kraid42, Widget, and SA and it is the most active site I know. I have no Fangame.

Well your fangame was fairly unique when it was started, adding something new to the community. So far you have been doing demos that everyone loved (to my knowledge), and you continue to work on it(as do I). You aren't a noob. Your site is dead, but it just doesn't have anything that people want to talk about on there. If you got a team together of people who will help you, then the forum may become much more active, but since its just you and me, all the people want is to play the game.

Most people look up to the big sites, and make their own site trying to get a community of their own started, but now these days, no one even has a good chance with the sites demanding total attention, and keeping people from the forums that can actually be good. I feel that certain sites are TOO powerful. IGN gets too much attention, but in a way thats good because a lot of the people there are spammers. Nsiders gets too much attention, but yet again, it is dominated by spammers, and I quote from something I remember someone saying, "It is 80% spam, and the other 20% is posted in the wrong area." Gamespot/Gamefaqs, gets too much attention, this place has a bunch of selfish idiots that only think they are the best. In ways, I am glad these places are taking spammers and gloating jerks away from these forums, but maybe if they never existed, there would be far less spammers. Sometimes I would say give the small areas a chance, but they usually only live if a person advertises a lot. I remember I got here by Dragon linking me to here, and I think he said he got here by a google search for Metroid.

I guess that is my rant also.

Axion - November 14, 2006 03:40 PM (GMT)
I agree with the above.

Dragon, like MM stated, you are bringing something unique and valuable to the Metroid community, and as far as I can tell, that is a great fangame. So I would keep it up.

Just as a disclaimer: I was not refering to anybody on this site. It was actually through SCU that I found all those noob sites that really happened to get on my nerves that day.

And I am sorry Anubis, maybe people were quiet because they knew it was true ^.^
