Title: Anybody do this WITHOUT cheating?
Description: You know, it's pretty tough
Omega Metroid adv - January 10, 2007 03:18 AM (GMT)
Beating the original metroid without cheating is actually pretty tough, i've done it myself, and when you get used to the enemies, strategies and everything, it gets really fun.
Before that, it's total hell and you don't know where you're going, for all YOU know, something could pop up from under the lava and fires a whole load of fire at you....
100% is near impossible if you don't have a guide. If you've spent years getting 100%, it might be possible. But you don't even know if you've gotton 100% or not!!!
So i've done it, it's hard, but once again, it'll get fun, then it'll be a lame daily routine when you're done!
Omega - January 10, 2007 11:14 AM (GMT)
I've done it without cheating twice. 100% is near impossobile though since you really don't know.
Kraid 2 cool - January 10, 2007 02:37 PM (GMT)
I've done it. It's hard, but after some time playing I got better.
The hardest boss is Kraid. Ridley is a joke! I just stand right in front of him and frozed his balls( ) and fired missiles.
Omega Metroid adv - January 11, 2007 01:47 AM (GMT)
Yeah, good for you guys! If you've beaten the game once, you can beat it over n' over, i've beaten it...wha? 4 times or so? I use the same strategy for Ridley, and the freezing fault, or the wave beam under him is what really makes him pathetic. I agree that Kraid was tough, he was much harder than Ridley.

I know it takes log frikin long  YOU are totaly lost...
Gearmaster - April 6, 2007 12:05 PM (GMT)
I can do 100% no prob.
The game is impossibly easy.

Yeah, it's been a while, and I think that too now. Just the 100% thing of all items tick me off, I'm too lazy. But if I wanted too, WITH a guide(near impossible without), I could easily do it too.
miles07 - April 12, 2007 06:46 PM (GMT)
The guide is supposed to make games easier! It tells you where to go and these little shortcuts and secrets you would never have found otherwise! That's why I love 'em. I've got the guides for Metroid in both the Primeand the Zero Mission guides. Therefore, I get double the guides for the exact same game. <_< >_> 'Cuz I pwn like that. B)
Gearmaster - April 13, 2007 12:32 AM (GMT)
Well I don't need a guide. I just pwn like THAT.
Zeta Blade - May 18, 2007 07:01 PM (GMT)
I played it for an hour and I got to the screw attack, not bad actually.
SA.09.21 - May 18, 2007 07:21 PM (GMT)
I never had enough patience to beat this game. :/

Yeah, me neither, I just beat Zero Mission instead. ^_^
Chaos Metroid - June 3, 2007 10:55 AM (GMT)
I've done it twice, and I've only used the narpas sword password with a walkthrough as well
Seriously though, without a map, I get utterly lost, end up going in circles, and don't wanna play it anymore. That or I keep dying before I get out of Brinstar. >_> Though that was my first 20 tries.
Omega Metroid adv - June 3, 2007 04:49 PM (GMT)
Ummm...that's beating it with cheats...the narpas Sword000000000000000 thing.
Dragon - June 3, 2007 06:54 PM (GMT)
I beat the game without any codes or walkthroughs, I just own like that. The game is so annoying and you die so much it does nothing but frustrate you. and it's impossible to complete your mission! "Destroy all the Metroids on planet Zeebeth and save the galaxy!"
How the hell can I destroy all the metroids if THEY RESPAWN WHEN YOU LEAVE/ ENTER THE ROOM AGAIN...
Gearmaster - June 4, 2007 06:31 AM (GMT)
Its just the game plot, chill dude.
Anyhoo, I can beat origional metroid really easy. I just know the controls.
Samus Oran - June 4, 2007 11:52 PM (GMT)
Though in my opinion Kid Icarus is much much much harder, still haven't beat the first level.
...... Random irritation in my bowels says sombody has quite a few typos in their post. And it's not mine.*hint hint*
Gearmaster - June 4, 2007 11:56 PM (GMT)
And I see a post that had nothing to do with the thread at all.
But I can fix my mistakes.
sheegothhunter - June 5, 2007 10:42 PM (GMT)
its a harder game than the others because for one there is no damn map, and you have less energy tanks, and enemies do more damage. ive played through a bit but found it much less interesting than its more recent remake (MZM). if i ever have that much time on my hands and nothing else to do i might try to beat it.
Gearmaster - June 6, 2007 07:03 AM (GMT)
All in all I think we can answer this topic question in one word...
Yes.
SA.09.21 - June 7, 2007 12:13 PM (GMT)
By the way, why does the game start with 30 energy units?
miles07 - June 22, 2007 03:51 AM (GMT)
??? Strange... I've wondered about that, too. I guess...
Remember when in MZM as an excerpt from Samus' log is being read (at the start of a new file) you can hear her moving around, jumping, and opening doors? If you trace her route from her ship...
...through the tunnels to the left...
...down the shaft (after using a Power Bomb)...
...through the door at the bottom...
...through another hall...
...to a room that looks like it used to have an elevator in it, you can kinda infer to what had happened.
She tried to use the elevator, but somehow it failed and she fell and got hurt. I guess in MZM her suit was a bit stronger, as she started out with 99 energy. In this game, though, her weaker 8-bit 2D suit was damaged from the fall, costing 69 units of energy. So, she starts out with 30 energy.
Case closed.
Axion - June 22, 2007 04:09 AM (GMT)
Yeah, that kinda makes sense .. but .. Where did she get said power bomb?
And oh .. as for the topic ..
The first couple of times I played Metroid I, I never finished it. I got really frustrated with it, kept getting lost, etc. etc.
Then I got to the Metroids. Ug. Those were a pain.
But finally I pulled myself together and beat the dang thing, I was rather relieved.
Gearmaster - June 22, 2007 05:54 AM (GMT)
Maybe the locks were put on by the pirates AFTER they realized she was here and the lock were put there to hinder her movements.

When you look at that area, you can sorta tell that that Power Bomb-able bunch of earth really collapsed on top of the passageway. I'm guessing that it was an earthquake that wrecked the elevator, as it could've also caused the cave-in there.
In which case, the rock that blocked the passageway was made out of materials susceptible to the Power Bomb only, which would not have been a problem because there are only two times in which you can get to that area: When escaping Tourian and when you've returned to the planet.
Again, I'm talking MZM here.

I really didn't think Kraid was a problem at all. I just charged at him and launched missiles into his face really quickly. No strategy. He was down in seconds.
