Title: Great Sequence Breaks...
Description: post about your great s.b.'s

sheegothhunter - June 15, 2007 11:53 PM (GMT)
I think this should be a topic. Who has done some awesome sequence breaks? im not talking about low percentage or high percentage, im talking about ripping apart the intended order of upgrade collection and discovering new possibilities in the world of sequence breaking.

there are the basics:
skipping charge beam
skipping long beam
others?

and slightly harder ones:
super missiles early
ridley before kraid
high jump early

and some i think were harder:
ice beam LAST
ice beam-high jump-screw attack-wave beam quick sweep

so who has some cool stories to tell?

Kraid 2 cool - June 16, 2007 03:03 PM (GMT)
Early Varia suit, Ridley before Kraid, skipping long beam, old early super missiles.
I've done some more. I'm trying to make a low% run right now but it's not going to well.

How do you get ice beam LAST, don't you have to freeze the metroids before you can kill 'em?

Gearmaster - June 17, 2007 05:24 AM (GMT)
I got to Kraid, super missiles, and something else I forget early and then went to Ridley immediatly after.

miles07 - June 21, 2007 04:28 AM (GMT)
-_- <_< Just click here. End of discussion.

Axion - June 21, 2007 08:51 PM (GMT)
I honestly don't think I can play MZM without skipping at least one thing, much less all .. haha. Aside from the first time I played, I don't think I have ever wasted my time on power bombs, and I always get Ice Beam last. Plus I love the way the Wave Beam looks without being 'Iced.

Oh, and I always do Ridley first. I rather like the Kraid environment so I like to save that for last before Tourain.

Hyper_Shock12 - June 22, 2007 12:19 AM (GMT)
I got ridley before kraid, morph ball before long beam, bombs before long beam, and super missle and hi-jump early

All easy to do if ya know how. I personally really love Screw Attack before Kraid. It helps, except for when you have to cross over an acid pit while riding a Zip Line while having about a dozen or so War Wasps flying at you from behind. The platform to get to the Zip Line can break by the Screw Attack, so it always slows me up.

Hyper_Shock12 - June 22, 2007 03:47 AM (GMT)
yeah I know i'm not a very good sequence breaker.

miles07 - June 22, 2007 06:49 PM (GMT)
You won't get better at anything unless you try try again. Every time I restart MZM, I remember how I did the Sequence Breaking and I reattempt them. Any experiments that I've done, I'd retry, and any part of the game that I'm bad on I'll go through again. My goal is to get a better time at it, just to get myself through the easiest (for me) at a great time.

Hyperboi4evr - June 28, 2007 03:39 AM (GMT)
I skipped ice beam, and went all the way to the metroids.

and me being dumb, forgot that i had to freeze 'em

Wave beam without ice beam on it sounds hecka cool though!

miles07 - June 28, 2007 03:44 AM (GMT)
Plasma Beam w/o anything else... meaning that once you get it, you can use it..? Pwnage in a Bottle.

?
Sorry, I'm listening to the Police right now...

It's do-able. Not too hard...just maybe really tough for begginers, and a tad tricky for experienced players.

miles07 - July 5, 2007 04:36 PM (GMT)
Except it doesn't serve a real purpose... You are forced to get it eventually.

Gearmaster - July 6, 2007 02:40 PM (GMT)
a charged plasma beam will one shot a metroid, a hunter metroid, and split a fission metroid.

miles07 - July 7, 2007 07:33 PM (GMT)
We're talking about MZM here... not Prime...
Although using Plasma shots do work well, except for in Hard Mode.

Gearmaster - July 8, 2007 03:38 AM (GMT)
*doj*
Whoops, I forgot, my one track mind glided on over to MP.

miles07 - July 8, 2007 05:56 AM (GMT)
One-tracks are for kart races. Maybe you should play Mario Kart a bit less!

Hard mode...you just have to be a little more careful.

But anyways, there are loads of sb's in MZM

miles07 - July 9, 2007 05:36 PM (GMT)
More so than in other games...

Hmm... I wonder if MP3C will have sequence breaks, too...

Gearmaster - July 10, 2007 08:55 PM (GMT)
Think of it this way.
On one hand, Retro most likely knows about the existing sequence breaks and has tried to fix them, this promotes mroe people to want to find possible breaks.

On the other hand, Retro might put breaks in intentionaly so it cna keep people interested once the game has been beat.

miles07 - July 11, 2007 02:11 AM (GMT)
So... the verdict, please, GearMaster? What's your guess?

Gearmaster - July 11, 2007 05:59 PM (GMT)
I would think the latter rather then the former.

miles07 - July 12, 2007 03:02 AM (GMT)
Yeah, breaks are fun to find... and more fun to use! ^_^

Gendreavus - July 13, 2007 01:50 AM (GMT)
Correction: Breaks that don't screw up the game are fun to find, and more fun to use. I'm fairly certain that was why they took the Scan Dash out of the Player's Choice version of Prime (I have both NTSC and Player's Choice by the way...). I don't think that they even cared that you could abuse the dash to reach far-away places, what they cared about was that the game crashed occasionally when you entered the Furnace room and several others, and that they were out of ideas on how to fix it, so they removed the buggy scan-dash, which did the trick.

On MZM though, I always skip the Varia Suit, High Jump, and do Ridley first. No if's, and's or but's about it. Much less backtracking that way, and getting Super Missiles fairly early on in the game is right on the same path...or at least...I think so...It's been a long time since I've played ZM...I should pick it up again some time.

miles07 - July 13, 2007 04:21 PM (GMT)
I get the first Super Missile in Brinstar, the way using the Speed Booster and the Morph Ball, startng in the room where you can (first) get the Charge Beam. Always. I only fight the Imago Hornet when I get more SMs, then pummel it to death. Sveet. B)

But I really miss that Scan Dash. I wanted so BAD to get the Space Jump Boots earlier... unfortunately, I have the Player's Choice version. NOOOO!!!!!

Oh well, at least there are tons more Sequence Breaks! On to Metroid2002.com!
*leaves to find more sequence breaks*

Gendreavus - July 14, 2007 05:36 AM (GMT)
EB Games or Gamestop likely have it used. Just ask to look at the disk before they give it to you when you buy it and look for "DOL-GM8E-0-00" Your Player's Choice version is 0-02. If there aren't any 0-00 copies, you can also get 0-01, which is basically the same, but you can't triple bomb jump over the runic gate on the way to Flaagrah.

In ZM I never get the speed booster or the High Jump in a low % run unless it's hard mode. I have so little health left after beating Mecha Ridley in Hard mode that I need the escape shortcut just to survive...

miles07 - July 14, 2007 06:19 AM (GMT)
Plus, those two Elite Pirates at the end of the escape... GAR! If only there were some easier way...

*glitches Phazon Beam into the game* *glee! B)*

Gendreavus - July 14, 2007 06:25 AM (GMT)
Nah. I always used the cheap trick to snipe them from the corner. Easy prey.

As long as they didn't get wise and actually climb the corner...

miles07 - July 14, 2007 06:42 AM (GMT)
True dat. Plus the Pirate Trooper that more likely than not follows you from the tunnel. He can sometimes be more surprising than you'd hope.

Still, I usually let him and the Pirate inside the Escape Pod live, so the ending cutscene has three Space Pirates trying to attack the Pod. *snickers* Check out what happens then...

Gendreavus - July 14, 2007 06:48 AM (GMT)
I do that a lot. They end up shooting each other, running in circles, and a bunch of other lol worthy stuff...I did enjoy messing with the Space Pirate's heads...especially after I cut them off...

miles07 - July 14, 2007 06:55 AM (GMT)
 *takes a step backward*
Gettin' a little bit violent there, Gendreavus. Let's just take a breather now...
