Title: Metroid Prime 4: Return of Dark Samus
WoTW - June 20, 2007 10:08 PM (GMT)
This is a fangame being made by me and 9 other members, this is what happens
Dark Samus was destroyed in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, but the space pirate has figure out how to revive dark samus you must prevent the form restoring dark samus at all cost.
Axion - June 20, 2007 11:03 PM (GMT)
Right.
Um, substance?
Dare I say more?
Shrander - June 21, 2007 03:08 AM (GMT)
Possibly screenshots, demos, features list, something?
miles07 - June 21, 2007 04:37 AM (GMT)
Sounds like you have a need for action... And engines. You will never get far without them.

The plot isn't very good, and I'm surprised you even managed to get 9 people to help you with this... It's not a good idea to be making a Metroid Prime 4 IMO. Is there anything else to this game? From what I see this is just a 3 minute idea you wrote out, do you have an engine? What about sprites and sounds? You need osme form of actual proof that this project exists.

Well it seems like you got a pretty big team, but things can go wrong with a big team, like a lot of misscomunication and lots of people not agreeing with each other.

Uh.... It isn't a very good idea to make a fan game that actually takes place in the actual series. Not only does it limit what you can do but if a sequal was ever made it would cause problems for the game.

No offence but the story is terrible. Who what when where why and how? You only told us who and what. You really need to think this through first.

This is a VERY basic plotline. I have like, 5 freakin un-released fangames that have the SAME plot only replacing a few key words. Trust me, you will need a better story line.
It sounds like you havn't even thought the platform to make this on. If you have what will you be using? TGF? Gamemaker? Other? Do you have sprites or will you be making custom sprites? How old are you and do you have a good knowing of programs? Can you devote all of your social life to this game?
And FINALLY the biggest breaking point, do we really need another fan game? There are THOUSANDS of these floting around. And it sounds like you just want to make a game for glory, the sake of making one or maybe one day you thought, "Hey, it would be really fun to make a fangame!!1111" Trust me, it won't work. I have tried to make MANY MANY MANY games. You don't even have the plot sorted out yet and you are ALREADY trying to advertize your game. I mean, I could understand if you were doing this to get more people helping but you are clearly just presenting this to us for our approval. If you were for real you would have already made a demo. Or at least STARTED your story line. Honestly you should probably not do this.....Of course thats not to say you can't do this but just think this through first.

We do need another metroid fangame, but only if it is good. Yeah, there are tons out their, but most of them are really poor in quality and effort.
We need one trhat is really good, and has had a lot of effort in it.
Axion - June 21, 2007 08:34 PM (GMT)
I think we scared him off >_>
Emperor - June 21, 2007 08:38 PM (GMT)
Well, if he was serious about the fangame, he'll be back, though it does need some work.
However, with 9 people working on it, they should be able to improve it enough and fix the things everyone mentioned.
At least, they should.

I'll just advise him (her? Not sure...) with this:
First, put your game on paper FIRST. Once you have a basic plotline, storyboards, maps, area and level details, developed characters, flowcharts, action lists and background sketches, THEN you turn to the computer. Search for sprites (I highly recommend MZM sprites, just 'cuz), music (Prime. I have the soundtrack in case you want it.), and engines. Organize your resources and put your plans on paper before you start downloading.
Make sure you have, at the very least:
- a list of stages/areas/levels with their respective maps, music files, concepts, key features, upgrades, enemies, and bosses
- a list of upgrades and items that your character(s) will collect in the specific order the should get them, as well as tanks and other extensions
- characters, bosses, and enemies, with their descriptions, actions, and the script (as in a play, not programming) of the encounters with them
- AND scripts (again, as in a play) of the prologue, epilogue, introduction, and training sequences (training sequence is when you teach the player how to control your character(s) effectively and how you teach them how to use any newfound abilities and/or items
This checklist goes for just about any game that you would want to make, Metroid or not. Remember, have a hard copy first before you turn to the computer. Having a good solid plan will be the best thing you have in creating a fangame, even though you may not go any farther than that; you'll still be farther than most others who attempted to create games.
BTW, it's also a good idea to download/check out other peoples' ideas for their games, to get more ideas on what to do and what to include in the game. That always helps.

Well the story is under review and may have alot of change since Dark Samus is not the main boss of the game and if anyone needs a link go to my profile and or click on my sig link to the forum.
We have not decided about all the bosses, but to be sure some of the boss in mp3 will be in the game and turn into 2D, like Ridley.
There will be a two new beam types of pirates aswell as new elite that are similar to the wave, ice, and plasma pirates on Metroid Prime.

Its good to see that you're considering your plot. I apologize for sounding like a little bit of an A-hole in my last post. I'm not a mod on this site so I have no reason to tell you what to do. Anyways, I'm still wondering what game creator you will be using. If you have no programing knowlage go with TGF2 ( The Games Factory 2) because it is very easy to use. But if you know ANYTHING about gamemaker go with that. It has less limitations however it is hard to actually make characters. If you have a sprite sheet it takes about a minute to make standing, walking, running , shooting, jumping, falling, etc. animations on TGF2. Also I know quite a few people have TGF/game maker knowlage so you could have a few people from here helping you.
miles07 - June 28, 2007 12:56 AM (GMT)
Gamemaker for practice demos, at the very least. But you want to make sure you're doing work on both GM and TGF. While GM is "limit-less", you have to pay for the "premium" version in order to get the good stuff like particle scripting and all that stuff.
Hmm... maybe I'll try that TGF2 stuff...
BTW, thanx for clearing that up, WotW.
WoTW - June 28, 2007 03:51 AM (GMT)
I think we will be using game maker since mp2d did a great job with there fangame on GM so I was thinking I may used that, but the problem is I'm not a programmer I'm more of a spriter.
I think I will pay game maker later on but we need to get sprites, background, music and maybe some sound in before we make a little demo.
miles07 - June 28, 2007 03:57 AM (GMT)
Engines. Don't forget those. I had a bunch of BGMs, sprites, and maps laid out, but my project got halted when I started thinking about engines. *groans/sighs* Horrible... I was so determined to not lay down my project... but that dead end really did kill me. I was heartbroken... That more accurately explains why I had disappeared from the board recently...
Anyway, I joined the forum. I figured you may need a little more of the Voice of Experience, so I'm there.
Emperor - June 28, 2007 04:47 AM (GMT)
WoTW, I'm glad to see you didn't leave, but be careful when you're planning out a fangme like right now. While resources are important, like Miles said, you need a core engine at the very least before you can actually do something with those resources.
Of course, after that comes level design, which can get..grueling after a while, but with a team of people, it shouldn't be too bad.
I hope this project goes well, and if you need programming help with gm, I can contribute a bit with that.
WoTW - July 2, 2007 06:18 AM (GMT)
That sounds good to me, I will have to learn more about GM later on. First we need some sprites to use without that than noting will be done.
miles07 - July 2, 2007 04:18 PM (GMT)
What style of sprites? SM? MZM? The 8-bit kind?
Oh never mind... I'll discuss it on your forum...
