Title: Should there be a Metroid game without Samus?
Description: Poll

Anubis - July 10, 2007 10:12 PM (GMT)
I was wondering if you think that there should be a Metroid game released without Samus Aran.
Personaly I wouldn't mind this. It seems to me why include other hunters in one game and not give a backstory or any other information about these other guys.

Gendreavus - July 10, 2007 10:22 PM (GMT)
I can see where you are going, but that would be like a Zelda game without Link. There can maybe be a spinoff series, but not a true Metroid game. Besides, games don't have to have somebody as playable to give them a backstory.

PirateQueen - July 10, 2007 11:18 PM (GMT)
Anubis does have a good point. Playing as what you would call " Second hand characters" would give you a taste on their lives and fighting ablitity. It would also pave the way for when Samus came into the game.

Gendreavus - July 10, 2007 11:56 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't mind having other playable characters in the story mode, just not having Samus as the main playable character.

When discussing Metroid it seems Halo has to be brought up at some point. Here we go; in Halo 2 I thought it was pretty awesome playing on the other side. It made the game much more exciting than I expected.

Theorecticly, most, if not all Zelda games had the same link. The OoT Link ended up trapped in Termina with no escape.

That we know of, MW... :ph43r:

Anyway, I agree with what Gendreavus just said. An RPG Metroid would be sveet, but something like Halo 2 would be nice, too.

Just one question:
Who would be the "darker" character? Samus as our "good" girl, but who would be the other character?

Gearmaster - July 11, 2007 06:08 PM (GMT)
Theres the problem right there. Why a spin-off series would be hard.

Who would you play as?

Think, what other charachters have been on the side of good that would be interesting to play as. U-Mos? Stays in temple. Some GFM's? Would be weaker Samus's, unless they incorporated some fed history and maybe some conspiricy thing, I dunno.

The point is there isn't rally anouther secondary charachter besides Samus to play as, unless you wanted to play as some of the hunters from Prime3 or hunters. But then again we allready knwo msot things about them.

I did however like Anubis's thought about Halo. It is an idea I have imagined for a while, being able to play as a space pirate, given missions and maybe fighting Feds and possibly Samus, although if that were to happen you would have to loes, since pirates periodicaly seem to do so against her.

miles07 - July 12, 2007 03:10 AM (GMT)
Well, it could be like Sonic Adventure 2, where at the points where the two plotlines cross a "neutral" ending to the event would occur, such as the "forest battle" scene in SA2...
And then, eventually, when both Samus' and the Pirate's stroyies are completed, players would unlock a "FINAL" story in which the two would have to work together to overcome a huge crisis of sorts... like a Metroid outbreak, or something. Who knows?

(Someone should make a fangame out of that idea...)

GlassPirate - July 12, 2007 03:25 AM (GMT)
I'm not going to explain it right now, too tired, sorry. But... SPACE PIRATES FTW! BRING ON BEING PROMOTED TO COMMANDO! I want to annoy the Hunter with EMP Grenades! ^_^

miles07 - July 12, 2007 03:37 AM (GMT)
And the cloaking. Don't forget that.

GlassPirate - July 12, 2007 03:38 AM (GMT)
Gah, foiled again! Curse you Miles, curse you and your attention to detail...

miles07 - July 12, 2007 09:13 PM (GMT)
OCD. Not officially, but close enough.

Taino - July 12, 2007 09:50 PM (GMT)
if there ever is a Metroid game without Samus and would take a plane to japan and protest outside Nintendo's headquarters in Osaka :(

.

.

.

.
I would then play the game after being deported back home

miles07 - July 12, 2007 10:10 PM (GMT)
Hmm hmm... and see if it's okay? Well, you'll do that for us, then, 'kay?

Gendreavus - July 13, 2007 02:34 AM (GMT)
I've always thought it would be cool to have a game where for the most part you are in control of one of the Galactic Marines. It would definitely be different, the weaponry would be much more like the human weaponry in Halo (probably causing more fanboys from either side to cry foul), but in order for it to be a true Metroid game, Samus would have to be involved. Imagine Metroid Prime 2 if there was a surviving Marine that had to work with Samus to get off of the planet. You could unloc Samus's perspective of the story when you beat it, giving it replay value. Th eonly problem I ca think of would be the similarity to Halo, which is probably the reason it hasn't been done yet.

Zeta Blade - July 13, 2007 03:10 PM (GMT)
I don't really see what's wrong with a game that doesn't have Samus I mean playing as Kanden or Noxus would be way more fun because it's a big change from the normal bounty hunter. Or Samus has been infected by phazon and you have to take her out so the GF could send out like Noxus or someone good to kill her. Or maybe someone like Weavel who hates her guts, or any hunter for that matter. And you play as that hunter.

miles07 - July 13, 2007 04:04 PM (GMT)
So, you want Metroid Prime: Hunters 2 to actually have 7 or so different stories, each from the perspective of a different Hunter?

-_- Hmm... I like. B)

i'd like that too

gilsthelizard - July 15, 2007 11:33 PM (GMT)
wow its like resident evil but with more charecters to play as...except outbreak, that has eight unless someone adds a charecter

GammaMetroid - July 16, 2007 07:30 AM (GMT)
If Samus dont apare in a metroid game it would be like a copy of metroid. I mean Samus is to inolved to not be "in" the game but you can play like someone else i´m with that....

MetroidMaster1914 - July 16, 2007 09:01 AM (GMT)
...Metroid without Samus is Zelda without Link.

GammaMetroid - July 16, 2007 09:13 AM (GMT)
There's acctually a Zelda game without Link, I think. It's for that wierd console made by Phillips and Nintendo called ''Cd-i'' or something. The game is called Zeldas adventure I think...

//K2C.

miles07 - July 16, 2007 04:55 PM (GMT)
Or Mario without Mario.

Yeah, but the thing is that all the cd-i games sucked terribly, especially the one without Link. It didn't even have any terrible quality FMVs to lol at.

Link mah boiiiii!

Which is exactly why it didn't stand a chance. It simply died.

StrafeHunter - May 31, 2008 03:06 PM (GMT)
There should be a game without samus, in fact i am making a game that stars a hunter called Strafe (see my avatar) and another one with a hunter called Vulkax (see image) ask me if you want the full story and i'll email it to you after i finish writing it.

Also the next metroid prime game should be the story of what happened to dark samus after it was born out of the last of the phazon on tallon IV, and how it got to aether. And also what happened to it after you defeated it on aether and how it gained control of the space pirates.

Hudson Platt - May 31, 2008 09:01 PM (GMT)
I think it would be an interesting thing to do. Have Samus pop in and out. Maybe go on bombing runs and stuff.

You could be a GF unit, but have Samus playable for a short amount of time. Like the Jedi in Star Wars: Battlefront 2. Making a game like Battlefront 2 in the Metroid universe would be quite interesting...

Kraid 2 cool - May 31, 2008 09:13 PM (GMT)
How about a Metroid Strategy game? Commanding either Space Pirates or the CFED troops. I'd probably buy it.

Hudson Platt - May 31, 2008 09:18 PM (GMT)
That'd be cool. I still like the sound of my idea...

GlassPirate - June 1, 2008 04:19 AM (GMT)
I think that, like Strafe said, some "Evil" viewpoint Metroid game (Playing as Dark Samus, or maybe a Space Pirate under said entity's control that figures out a whole bunch of events, Etc.) would be rightly awesome.

As for a Metroid strategy game, it would have to be on the scale of Supreme Commander. THEN I would insta-buy it. Hell, that might be one of the only games I pre-order...

Monkey Lords? No, we have GEEMER LORDS!

Dragon - June 1, 2008 01:30 PM (GMT)
I'm not sure about not having Samus at all, I mean I suppose it could be done in a spin off series, but I'd rather have a game where there are several characters each with different characters and back stories, but each part of the story comes together in the end, so you get the full picture.

Like Sonic Adventure without Big.

GlassPirate - June 1, 2008 05:48 PM (GMT)
NOS, YOU CAN'T GET RID OF TEH FAT PURPLE CAT! WHAT SHALT WE DO WITHOUT HIM?!1ONEONE1!?

I add Dragon's ideas to my idea repository. Just.... Less of a Samus-EXCLUSIVE game, I guess...

Hudson Platt - June 1, 2008 08:34 PM (GMT)
I'm tellin ya, we need a Battlefront 2 style game.

Kuro-chan - June 1, 2008 11:29 PM (GMT)
1 Planet
1 Force of evil that must be stopped
3 Hunters, all contracted and hired to do a similar job.
1 Story told form everyone's perspective.
All enemies.

You don't just walk and shoot with them. They all acquire different abilities, different means of solving puzzles, etc. and eventually they would step on each others' toes, unaware of their common goal and presuming them to be enemies.

Hudson Platt - June 2, 2008 12:16 AM (GMT)
That sounds interesting...

Kraid 2 cool - June 2, 2008 03:43 PM (GMT)
Indeed, Hudson. Indeed...

Hudson Platt - June 2, 2008 05:03 PM (GMT)
Lol. You made me giggle.

Kuro-chan - June 2, 2008 08:09 PM (GMT)
If my Angel of Darkness character were involved, it would be a sequel to her first adventure and definitely get a thrill out of the merciless slaughter of Space Pirates, especially with her psionic abilities playing games with breaking bones, crushing heads, throwing them against walls without lifting a finger, etc. It would be personal payback for invading her masters' territory and be quick to volunteer for such a mission.

Her Psi Suit is quite different from a traditional automated and mechanical power suit, whereas everything is controlled with her mind, leaving her body free to perform other tasks (Thus, why her arm cannon is mounted above her hand rather than replacing it; her mind handles the firing control... though it certainly would not be the case with a game controller, just makes things more interesting from the story perspective.) Her Psi Suit is built to assimilate technology (both organic and mechanical) and deploy the abilities to enhance her combat and secondary capabilities.

Her first mission was disastrous at best as her suit was having considerable difficulty assimilating Chozo technology. (Such as the Gravity Suit became an equivalent missile launcher, the Screw Attack became a substitute for Bomb, etc.). During her first mission her power suit crashed, leaving only minimal defenses, requiring her masters to upload a restart program to restore it's functionality. To make matters worse, she barely survived her encounter with Metroids as they found her psionic energy much easier to absorb than Samus' Power Suit energy, draining her at an incredible rate. Eventually she set all the base power generators to blow, resulting in the total annhilation of the entire colony. Whatever she did not destroy, her masters assured that they would finish off personally, now that possible exposure is no longer an issue.

Who would do for a third...

Hudson Platt - June 2, 2008 08:25 PM (GMT)
I'm lost Kuro. How is that relevant to the former topic of discussion?
