Title: 3 Metroid Game/Storyline Ideas
Description: That I can't decide on

Got_Metroid??? - July 11, 2007 05:44 AM (GMT)
#1: Metroid: Termination

Time: After Super Metroid but before Metroid Fusion
Setting: Space Pirate Ship

After Samus defeated the Space Pirates for the last time on Zebes, the Galactic Federation assumed that the Space Pirate empire was defeated. However, they would soon find out that one Pirate escape ship managed to evacuate Zebes before it blew up. Samus is sent to destroy the ship. While sabotaging the space ship, she finds that she isn't the only thorn in the space pirate's side. The space pirates attempted to duplicate SR-388's ecosystem in a confined area of the ship, where there just so happens to be metroid clones moving about. The Space Pirates attempted to evolve the metroids through their natural life cycle, but instead the metroids have been evolving into grotesque (and very destructive) forms. Samus also finds out that the Pirates are attempting to clone their leader, Ridley and they plan on steering the ship toward SR-388 and build a base there.

Comments: When I thought up this story I was playing Fusion and I just beat Ridley. I thought to myself "Why would Ridley and the Space Pirates be on the BSL?" This story attempts to explain why.

The only thing keeping me from working on this is that I don't know how much people will like the story.

#2: Metroid: Conspiracy

Time: After Fusion
Setting: Space Prison

After the destruction of the BSL, Samus is on the run, in a desperate attempt to evade Galactic Federation forces. However, one battle ship manages to trap Samus in its tractor beam. Samus is sent to a prison planet and shackled. She is put in a cell with a real live Chozo. Samus is startled that a real Chozo is in front of her, having thought the species was extinct for years. Red Claw, the Chozo, tells Samus that the prison planet she is standing on was once home to a great Chozo civilization. Raneck, the leader of the prison, destroyed the civilization and covered it up, not allowing the rest of the Federation know of his evil deeds. Red Claw tells Samus that she must tell the federation of Raneck's evil deeds and destroy the prison. So Samus escapes her cell and explores the planet, she also uncovers information about Raneck's secret agenda. Raneck's plan is to use the metroids he is secretly building in his base to overthrow the Federation and start a dictatorship with himself as the supreme leader. This is where the "Conspiracy" in the name comes from.

Comments: The thing keeping me from choosing to work on this one is the fact that almost every metroid fangame idea is set after Fusion.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
#3: Metroid: Dimension Conflict

Time: During the Luminoth and Ing war
Setting: Light/Dark Aether

In this game you play as either U-Mos, a Luminoth destined to become a leader, or an unnamed Ing who eventually rises to the rank of Hunter. In the Luminoth game you start at a lowly rank at the begining of the war. You use Luminoth technology like dark and light blasters and beam swords to cut away at your enemies. It will have a very Metroid-like feel, because some of the time you will find yourself alone and you will need to explore your environment and acquire upgrades along the way. But sometimes you will fight along side other Luminoth and have team battles against the evil Ing. Now I'll be talking about the Ing game. As I said, you will control an Ing that becomes Hunter, but at the start of the game you start at a very low rank of Inglet going up ranks as you move along. You shift from solid to puddle form to move swiftly and move around objects. When needed to go into the light world, you will gain control of a nearby creature and move that creature along from there, using the creature's abilities to battle enemies. Like the Luminoth game, it will have a very Metroid-like feel and you will get to fight along side the rest of your kind.

Comments: I want to work on this game the most, the idea just really intrigues to me. There are a few things keeping me off this, though. Echoes has lost the height of its popularity, this story doesn't involve Samus, and the programming of two distinct games and the Ing's possession ability will be a terrible pain to program.

PLEASE COMMENT!

Thank you.

I didn't like #2 mainly because, "Samus destroyed BSL and is running from the Federation" is the most overused Fusion sequel plot out there. And simply because of that I wouldn't recomend using it. #1 and #3 seem ok though.

Actually, from reading more I would recomend using story #1. 3 seems good but imagine having to sprite all of those Luminoth and Ing... It would take a while I would think. If you ask me #1 would probably be the less painful story to go with.

miles07 - July 11, 2007 04:27 PM (GMT)
I said #3. LET THERE BE WAR!!!!!

But really, all three stories are good and basic; the problem is, indeed, the programming and the spriting. Otherwise, I really don't care which of the three you end up choosing -- they all sound great to me!

Got_Metroid??? - July 11, 2007 05:52 PM (GMT)
Spriting the Luminoth and Ing won't be much of a problem; I plan on spriting everything for any one of the three games I choose.

In fact, I already started to sprite a custom Samus for my first idea:

(Zero Mission Samus is there for comparison)

Out of all of the ideas, none of them seem highly origional, save for number two. I rather like that idea. Although I think it might be hard to come up with enemies without it becoming a resident evil shoot all the escaped, mindless prisoners before this explodes or you have to fight a boss.

Number 3 sounds like Halo.

Got_Metroid??? - July 11, 2007 06:24 PM (GMT)
As I said, #2 will take place on a prison planet that was once home to Chozo. So of course there will be your usual enemies like sidehoppers and zoomers trying to attack you when you explore the area. Not the entire planet is a prison. Just a part of it.

How does #3 sound like Halo? It won't be an FPS and there will still be a large focus on exploration. And the two distinct games won't be one in the same. They will be two different games, just in one game file. Kind of like a two-in-one.

Gearmaster - July 11, 2007 11:47 PM (GMT)
It just does, it sounds like Halo 2 to me.

GlassPirate - July 12, 2007 03:17 AM (GMT)
No offense, but #1 sounds a bit boring. Just sorta...I don't know ...not lively. IN my opinion, #2 is NOT original. Except for the fact that Samus actually gets caught and meets a Chozo, like you said, it's run from the Gfeds this, run from the Gfeds that, after Fusion, after Fusion, after Fusion. #3 is the winner for me, I'll have to agree with Miles on this one. It's actually an idea that I've been thinking about, but I didn't think was fan possible. And I doubted retro would make another Prime 2 based game... <_< It sounds fun to me, I'll play through the Ing game first! ;) I can see how it could turn out like Halo, but as long as it's not a FPS and there's no deathmatch gamemode, it should be great! I think what Got_Metroid??? (correct me if I'm wrong) means is that like in Half-Life 2 you could get like a squad of rebels to help fight agaisnt the Combine and stuff. (I'm not heavily basing it on that, if that's how the game turns out I'll be disappointed.) :( And also, it seems that you have some great game-making skills, G_M???. That custom Samus looks great! I really hope it works out for you, and I'm itching to try any Metroid fan-games you make. The ones out right now aren't really any fun, no offense to anyone. :P And they all die... But with a name like yours, how COULD you let us down?!

One word: OBSESSED.
So, Got_Metroid, when you mean "two games in one pack", you mean each side will have a different style of gameplay? Or you mean two stories, like in Sonic Adventure 2?

Got_Metroid??? - July 12, 2007 04:48 AM (GMT)
I mean two different stories and two different styles of gameplay. Meaning, if you continue one game, progress won't be made on the other game.

And people seem to like the third idea. I guess people still like Echoes. I'm still not 100% sure if I'll go with the third idea though. I'll need to get some more votes first.

Thanks a lot, GlassPirate, your words are truly inspiring. :D

GlassPirate - July 12, 2007 05:06 AM (GMT)
Me? Inspiring? No, G_M, YOUR words are inspiring. ;)

miles07 - July 12, 2007 06:08 PM (GMT)
Um, yeah, that's kinda what "two different stories" mean. Progress on one won't affect the other much. But it could help clarify some cryptic events and dialog.

GlassPirate - July 12, 2007 08:52 PM (GMT)
Whichever one you choose, PLEASE add a lot of scans/documents/stuff to read. I always loved reading those, like in Prime. Story ftw!

miles07 - July 12, 2007 09:07 PM (GMT)
Of what, exactly?

GlassPirate - July 12, 2007 09:27 PM (GMT)
...Luminoth lore? Ing observations? I don't know. Just cool stuff to read... :(

miles07 - July 12, 2007 10:06 PM (GMT)
Try either:

a)Replaying Metroid Echoes and observe, OR
b)searching online (like at Gamespot) in case anyone transcribed the Luminoth Lore.

GlassPirate - July 12, 2007 10:30 PM (GMT)
I'm not saying put the originals in. I'm saying make up some new logs! I already have read over every Echoes entry at least 3 times, I'm just saying they were fun insight on some of the finer details of the story, and it would be nice to read some new ones!

miles07 - July 12, 2007 11:49 PM (GMT)
So make some new ones! The best tool you have is your imagination...

GlassPirate - July 13, 2007 12:10 AM (GMT)
Good point...

miles07 - July 13, 2007 06:58 PM (GMT)
Wait, isn't Got_Metroid??? the one who made this topic..? Why am I taking to you, GP?

Anyway, GM?, what I say is: do what you want, but when you hit a roadblock, ask those around you or the experts (this site in full of them) as to what to do next.

Got_Metroid??? - July 14, 2007 07:35 PM (GMT)
Good advice, miles07.

miles07 - July 19, 2007 04:40 AM (GMT)
THNX. That's what I'm here for.
