Title: f0r t#3 lulz
Description: Proposal For Spam Section

SM-X - August 29, 2007 11:54 PM (GMT)
In light of some recent posts (made in very bad moods), and some not-so recent, I think it's about time we made ourselves a spam section, albeit one that doesn't increment post count.

Who else thinks it's high-time we got one?

GlassPirate - August 30, 2007 12:07 AM (GMT)
I don't know, I guess I'll say yes. I probably wouldn't use it though.

Anubis - August 30, 2007 01:37 AM (GMT)
I do blieve MM1914 stated a while back he was opposed to a spam section.

SM-X - August 30, 2007 02:42 AM (GMT)
But it would help keep the spam topic number down in the General Discussion section. And you could make it so the post count doesn't increase with each spam post. It can be done.

Shrander - August 30, 2007 11:02 PM (GMT)
If it is to be done, it would still need to have things in an orderly conduct, such as posts still need to be readable, and not just random letters or words stringed together not making any sense. And a quote from MFM: "Abuse it, and you lose it." would work fine with it. If it gets out of control it can be removed again.

Pros:
Might boost some activity.
Filter out certain topics that would be better fit for it.
May help vent some feelings people have, out some.
Might help the forum some.
People can have some more fun.
Good chances of keeping moderators busier with things.

Cons:
Might get way too much attention.
Might get out of control.
Good chance of bringing in types of members that are unwanted.
Might boost Metroid Oracle's activity.
Might make other parts of the forum lose activity.

I am not sure, maybe we should try it, and if it does good, then keep it, but if not, then drop it? Nothing to really lose, right?

Gearmaster - August 30, 2007 11:09 PM (GMT)
I don't think we need one. Just some common sense.

ArktiK - August 30, 2007 11:42 PM (GMT)
1. I'm not Metroid Oracle.
2. I don't spam--I don't go around and make 300 topics with "lulz" all over it.

That's... what it would mean to have a "spam forum". <.<

Anubis - August 31, 2007 04:01 AM (GMT)
No arktik, that's not what it means to have a spam forum.
Personally, I am against it. I don't see a real need right for it and what I have seen spam forums leech activity. Big time. Like a really big leech/parasite. They suck it all away. Or create a vacuum.

ArktiK - August 31, 2007 04:17 AM (GMT)
LIES. Anyways. That IS what it would mean to have a spam forum. Think about it now, how can you have a spam forum, but make the rule that you can't say things that don't make sense. Now how exactly is this spam? Isn't spam composed of large, insanely sarcastic/useless post? ... oh snap.. I just owned myself... If the incentive to have a spam forum is to spam, but you can't have things that don't make any sense, then any incentive to start a spam forum is effectively destroyed.. :(

EDIT: Now now, don't agree with me and tell me that I'm right and that this is the reason there shouldn't be a spam forum, seeing as how I doubt anybody understands what I said. Haha. But either way, a spam forum is composed of exaggerated posts, and therefore a spam forum would mean exaggerated/immature/sarcastic/stupid posts. :P

Spam forum=bad, reasoning...
Presenting evidence.
Point 1. A Spam forum is a place that allows people to post what they want when they want, thus leading to a lack of activity elsewhere due to the disorganized content being posted there that could be posted else where where it could become a structured thing.

Point 2. If the spam post had some sort of point that would be worth discussion, it would most likely be turned into a bubbling craphole of crap posts before a GM+ member could move it to an appropriate section where it would be taken seriously.

Point 3. Spam tastes bad, even with ketchup

Shrander - September 1, 2007 01:50 AM (GMT)
Metroid Fan mission has one. It started off by leaching all the attentin to it, then after it was threatened to be taken away, it lost nearly all activity, but still gets some posts off and on.

Gearmaster, what in the hell does meat have to do with any of this?

Kiroshima - December 24, 2007 12:57 AM (GMT)
Wait, I think I'm missing something. What is Metroid Oracle?

metroid33 - December 24, 2007 04:43 AM (GMT)
I'm guessing Metroid Oracle is a person who now assumes the guise of a flamer/troller named ArktiK . Also, A SPAM section is bad. The MGB had one and it got all of the attention with very few new topics made outside of it. Unless this forum has a death wish, stay away from the spam topic.

Ye'd be correct Anubis. I've always thought that a spam forum would somehow lower the standard that was set for MHQ in the beginning. Plus, after looking into some other places spam forums, it just doesn't seem like the kind of thing I'd want MHQ to have (thinks of how Anubis USED to be). The subject has been brought up before by the staff and the idea was rejected. But hey, if someone here can say something to convince me that MHQ should have a spam forum, then be my guest.

Also,

...and you criticize me for my typos...

Anubis - December 24, 2007 10:30 PM (GMT)
Have you not heard about the word blieve? It comes from an ancient word used by the Aborigines of Australia and New Zealand, blivi. It means to accept as truth or fact.
1.5% (53,000) of New Zelanders stated Jedi as their religion, or blieve.

miles07 - December 26, 2007 08:37 PM (GMT)
I really don't care as to the inclusion of a Spam section or not -- I'm not gonna be one of those pathetic losers who goes on them just to post the first thing that comes out of my hea--

HAMBURGERS!

I think every forum needs a spam section, that way members can vent out what they need to say without disturbing the rest of the forum.

Anubis - February 2, 2008 10:21 PM (GMT)
No double posting please.

Invisionfree lets people make forums by mass quantities, could always just make a new one for spam >.>
I'm going to close this since I doubt there will be much more that people could add to this topic positively.

And Cyberwolf, please use a small sig., that one is a tad too hefty in size.
