Title: So I get Super Metroid on the VC.
MetaSamus - December 24, 2007 05:01 AM (GMT)
I beat it in one sitting with about 76% of items. It took me like 3 hours. Is that normal??
Now I'm a little sad that I paid 8 bucks for it and didn't make it last at least a day. Then again, I've played through the game before many times so I guess it's not totally unbelievable. I can't help but think though it took me like 8 hours to get near that percent last time I played it...

So go for the ultimate Speed Run: 100% in a minimum amount of time! Think you can do it?
MetaSamus - December 24, 2007 10:34 PM (GMT)
No, I don't think I can. I can get 100% in about 7 hours probably. First I need to memorize the location of all the tanks and such, though. I've never gotten 100% on Super Metroid before.

Practice makes perfect. More practice is better.
Plus, sequence breakers work sometimes. Look into those if you want.
Kraid 2 cool - December 30, 2007 09:35 PM (GMT)
I finished it yesterday. Took my 4-5 hours and I ended up with 60% <_<
I got stuck in Maridia for about a half hour, I can do it faster.

Yeah, I hate that too. That and escaping from lower Brinstar after getting the Ice Beam to get the Power Bomb. Freezing the Rippers in order to get through the chasms is waaaayyyy too tedious and error-laden for me.

100% in 1:49 for me. It's not the fastest out there, but I still think it is a reasonably good attempt.
Then again, I got this game like 14 years ago, shortly after it came out.
My favourite Sequence Breakers include (Which I love to use):
- Wave Beam before Ice Beam and Grappling Beam (This one can save a good 20 min.)
- Power Bomb before Grappling Beam while in Norfair (Not the one from Brinstar)
- Speed Booster to get to the Wrecked Ship
- Early Super Missile and Reserve Tank
miles07 - April 19, 2008 02:14 AM (GMT)
Um, you need the Power Bomb to get to Crocomire, which is right before the Grapple Beam.
1:49? Well, that's pretty darn fast (compared to my 98% 10:49...)!

No you don't. You could use Wave Beam and go in through the other way to get to Crocomire. There also happens to be a Power Bomb Expansion after you beat Crocomire that you can collect and use to get the Grappling Beam.
miles07 - April 23, 2008 12:02 AM (GMT)
Well, using the room with the automatic shutters in which you need the Speed Booster (en route to the Ice Beam), the power bomb blocks below that floor are the fastest way to get to Crocomire...
WAIT! You just agreed with me! You DO need the P. Bombs to get to the Grapple Beam! Grr!!!
Kuro-chan - April 23, 2008 07:37 PM (GMT)
Sorta. You are talking about the one way to get to Crocomire. I am talking about the other side, the side you are already on after you get the Speed Booster AND Wave Beam. Over on that side, there are gates where you need to shoot the other side, then run through the Dragon's lair to get to Crocomire.
I will pull out a reduced size map I did of the game to show the rooms.

What Dragon's lair? Lower Norfair? Maridia?
I'm confused...
Kuro-chan - April 24, 2008 10:12 PM (GMT)
Dragon's Lair: My nickname. It's for a chamber with lava that is filled with dragons from one end to the other. I cross one of them when I take the back door to Crocomire's Lair.
Lower Norfair: An unofficial name. Also called Ridley's Lair. It's a part of Norfair that is not shown in your map download that you must completely explore to locate and eliminate Ridley.
Maridia: An area of Zebes new to Super Metroid. About 3/4 of it is submerged, requiring Samus to have a Gravity Suit to navigate through it.
Kraid 2 cool - April 26, 2008 06:39 PM (GMT)
My record.
Time: 08h 22m
Item: 125%
Reset Glitches: 2 B)
BTW I know what Maridia and Lowe Noefair is and how to get there. I thought you meant, by saying Dragon's Lair, Maridia or L. Norfair...

Okay, i get what you are saying, but then that means you've Sequence Broken the path to get to the Wave Beam, since you originally need the Grapple Beam to get it.
Okay, I gotcha now.
Kuro-chan - April 30, 2008 09:38 PM (GMT)
You're supposed to have the Grapple Beam to get the Wave Beam, but with the assistance of a couple well-placed wall jumps and a willingness to take damage, it's very possible to get the Wave Beam on the way up to the Speed Booster.
miles07 - May 3, 2008 01:31 PM (GMT)
Well, I'll have to look into that...
