Title: PSP vs. DS
Kraid 2 cool - January 30, 2008 03:55 PM (GMT)
My birthday is coming up. I'm finally gonna afford to buy a DS! But, I might want a PSP instead. I can't make this decision so I asked my friends what they would have done. Didn't work.
I really love all the great games the DS has to offer like Dawn of Sorrow, Mario Kart DS and Metroid Hunters etc. But the PSP has Tales of Eternia, Loco Roco and, later, even Symphony of the Night is coming up!
What am I gonna do?
Maybe you guys can help me out here?
Otherwise you could just vote for fun.
Feel free to discuss PSP and DS.

I have used my Nintendo Dual Screen more than my PlayStation Portable to the power of 13. Maybe it's just me, but the DS seems to have more going to it, and is less aimed to adults and young adults. (Seems to me like that is who it's targeted at, as many of the games on the PSP I have no interest in. (And it's not just because of the maturity level, I couldn't live without my crime, gore, guns, and language. XD) Anywayz, enough of my semi-ranting, I would either say get the DS, or just save your money. I heard a new DS is supposed to be coming...
*EDIT* No offense, but if you look at it, DarkSamus could have just put himself down. Yay for acronyms! :D

DS sucks. Theres barely any good games and it's becoming like gamecube (obselete). PSP has HEAPS of games, and movies and internet.
I think the choise is made.

I vote DS (although Castlevania Portrait of Ruin is better than Dawn of Sorrow). My sister has a PsP, and it really is great, with advanced graphics for a handheld. However, at closer inspection, it isn't worth it to have such a customisable handheld, because it performs all aspects to a lesser degree, rather than specializing in one aspect to excel. It may have better graphics, but worse than the computer and the PS2 and 3. It lacks the innovative and interactive games that the DS has. Plus, you can't really go wrong with Nintendo, it has a lot of great games for the DS. From expanding your mental power to testing your handeye coordination, the DS covers a wide field of games. I may be biased, but the PsP just doesn't offer enough for me, most of which I can achieve with a computer. As for DvD's, is it really worth buying them again as the disk type the PsP uses? Just wait till you reach your destination or get a portable DvD player. As for music, aren't there better devices for it? You can't even listen to the music tracks you put on your memory card while playing games, only while the PsP is in the menu. Internet browsing is a kinda obvious, as it isn't necessary in a handheld life. Most of the time, when you are on the move, you won't have access to internet while in car. But, if this cannot help you decide, remember:
I'm Kiroshima, and I approve the DS!
Or just make a list of pros and cons and weight them yourself :P

DS has internet too. You just have to buy a game cartridge. <__<; My brother has a PSP, hardly ever uses it. I have a DS, and I too don't use it as much as I'd like. Though if I had to choose, I'd say DS. I'll always be a Nintendo fanboy...
I'm MetroidMaster1914, and I endorse the Nintendo DS! ;)

No good games? Sucks? What the heck?
DS has many great games. You can play movies and music on the DS if you buy a Flashcard.
Oh yeah, i don't think I'd like to buy my favorite movies again just so I can watch them on a tiny screen. I'd rather just watch with my friends in front of the TV.
I'm only interested in PSP because of SotN and maybe Dracula X.
I have three buds who got a DS and Mario Kart, they keep telling me to buy one so we can all play together. it sure is tempting, but what if I get bored.
Oh screw it! I don't need a PSP! A have a DVD and a Stereo. I can buy a original PS and enjoy SotN and Chrono Cross in my couch.
I'm getting a DS. I can't afford a PSP + Games anyway, the DS is cheaper and more fun.

Though I have little knowledge of PSPs, I have to seriously say DS for one reason I either haven't seen posted about yet, or I missed it while reading, PSP, just to play all the games you have to upgrading and downgrading the firmware a bunch since certain games fit only a certain firmware. Maybe I am wrong, but that's what I have heard from several friends who own PSPs.
But then again, there is no better place for money, than your wallet.

Eh.. I have a DS, but I barely play it...if I owned a PSP, I don't think I'd be playing it more though, so my vote goes to save your money.

I don't have a wallet...

Being a Nintendo fan, I'm obviously going to choose the DS.
But for all the right reasons, though. To me, and not showing favoritism, the PSP doesn't even have good games. Nintendo started the whole portable genre, and, like everything else they have, Sony stole that idea too!
But, now showing favoritism, the DS is all-around better. Including the touch screen and many great games, the DS surpasses the PSP all the way through!
metroid33 - February 3, 2008 04:38 AM (GMT)
Psssssssst, buy the DS. The games are better and the overall experience is better.
GammaMetroid - February 3, 2008 06:35 PM (GMT)
You have already asked me but seriously DS would be my absolute choice and i really cant wait to play dawn of sorrow..

Then put it all in a sock :P
If you don't have any socks, buy some with the money and put whatever is left in one of them.

My brother may be buying a PSP from a classmate of his. He's getting it and Starwars Battlefront II for $90. If you can find a deal like that, I'd say go for it. The one thing that the PSP does have going for it is that it is intensely hackable. There's loads of homebrew stuff for it according to a friend of mine, so even though Sony itself hasn't done much with/for its little handheld, the community has chipped in there.
If, however, you aren't getting it for a nice deal, I'd say go with the DS. The Phoenix Wright trilogy will last you about a month or two (part of that may be spent finding the games, but oh well), and then afterwards you can kick back with Mario Kart, MPH, Pokemon (yessir, I most heartily reccomend it), Phantom Hourglass, etc. and never stop playing them.
Kraid 2 cool - February 4, 2008 04:10 PM (GMT)
I'm getting a NDS together with Mario Kart. I won't be getting any money until the 25th of February so it'll take a while. I'm going to afford one more game other then Mario Kart.
I might buy Dawn of Sorrow because I've been planning to do that a long time.
GammaMetroid - February 4, 2008 08:10 PM (GMT)
Excellent choice my dear friend and i may have a little suprise for you on your birth party.. xD
Kraid 2 cool - February 5, 2008 02:42 PM (GMT)
Is that so? Just don't go spending too much money on me...
If I'm lucky I might get my hands on a DS the next week, if I'm lucky.
GammaMetroid - February 5, 2008 07:46 PM (GMT)
You acctually belive i would spend anything on you???
ok im kidding it wont be "to" expensive.
Kraid 2 cool - February 26, 2008 11:32 PM (GMT)
Today, I went to EBGames and bought a DS Lite together with Mario Kart.
Sooo....Where's the Friend Codes B)
Seriously I can't find any...
I tried some in the MPH section, but they didn't work, is it MPH only? I need someone to race against.

There is a major difference between a DS and a PSP. Consider this comparison
Consider a DS like a Mac. Basically what you have is what you get. There is not much modding to do with it, but what you get is of the absolute best quality, no doubt about it.
Consider the PSP like a PC. You get the basics, but you can also do just about anything with it. You can mod it in as many ways as you like, but the quality or the performance of it all is kinda iffy.
If you want something that gives you the best of its functions, The DS is there. Their is a WIDE array of games for the DS, literally hundreds of them. The DS is made for Video Games, and just that so that's basically all you'll get, but they be some of the best games you'll ever play.
The PSP is something you get if you want something you can modify to your liking. Now I won't say that all of the games on PSP suck, but the library is lacking in variety. Of course, the PSP is very modular, just like a PC, so if you like to hack things or just modify (like me), the PSP is just for you.
Personally, I love the DS. I had a PSP, and I used it for everything, but after awhile, I got tired of it. The game were lackluster, except for a few ports from the PS2, and a few other good games like Lumines and Loco Roco (which is the cutest game ever on the PSP). But all I really wanted was something for cool games. I could get an MP3 MP4 player if I wanted videos and such. Every game that I have ever had on a DS was a game that could keep me busy for months.
You made the right choice in getting a DS. Don't forget to get Metroid Prime Hunters too, if you can find a copy. Oh, and to tell everybody, I'll be getting another DS and a copy of Animal Crossing and Metroid Prime Hunters By the end of the month. So anyone who wants to take on a 4-star Samus/Sylux/Trace/Noxus/Weavel hunter, or chill with me in my town (if anyone still pays that game), just wait a few more weeks.

Wow. Way to bump a month-old topic, Xavi.
XaviAce - April 3, 2008 04:40 AM (GMT)
O.o
Oops on that one...
But I stand by my reply. The DS pwns the PSP.
