Title: Metroid Final

JacobXScum - March 21, 2008 02:36 AM (GMT)
Apparently, unbeknown to me, my Metroid project has a title similar to several others. So goes the world of fangaming. This is a project i've been working on for over four years now, and i'm in testing stages. It's being released in episodes. At the moment i have Episodes 1 and 2 completed. There is a significant amount of content, and anyone trying this out will be busy for quite some time. It looks, feels, sounds, and plays just like a Metroid game, but it's much harder. I've worked very hard to make sure of this. I'm not gonna make a short post long by putting up too much information. If you want to play it...here's the link.

Please read the documentation. All the info you need is there.

If you're playing it...email me jacobxscum@pksmetal.com and tell me what you think. Anyone who emails will be put on the mailing list, and will be listed as a tester in the game's closing credits. Just make sure you put "Metroid" in the subject of your email so i don't think it's spam.

Thanks in advance.

Copy and Paste from MFM.

Just played the game, and prepare for the review.

Metroid: Final, it's about time we got a good sized Metroid fangame...
The physics and animations seem a bit off at times, and several enemies are oddly cropped as well. It's really not a good idea to mix bitages either, like how you're using Zero mission and Super Metroid sprites and tiles. This isn't really that severe of a problem, as the game still looks descent. Another annoying thing was the music. Unfortunately, the music was terrible in this game... Don't use midi's. They sound bad, and it can take away from the gaming experience. Another thing I didn't like was you were using those midi Zero Mission tunes, which didn't really fit well with the setting at all. if you used original tracks from super Metroid, I believe it'd work out MUCH better.
I haven't gotten far into the game because it's a bit hard. The enemy placement is annoying, and many will find out that's the main reason for them dying.

That being said, it's not a bad game. Room transitions are nice, and the addition of a map can really help out at times. I really feel like you should have added more save stations, you need to add them at the start of every new area. I reached Norfair, and died, then I had to start all over from my ship. It can get repedative at times. Enemy movement seems slow and "Path movementish" for some of the creatures. Still, it's a good fangame, and we shouild be seeing more games like this here... Good job.

You're on to me...

Thanks for the comments on both forums.

HUGE BUG Discovered, people.

It made it impossible to beat Episode 1. It's been fixed. Redownload and replace the exe file in your current folder with the one from the new folder.

Sorry...but that's what testing is i suppose.

And...don't forget to shoot me an email with "Metroid" in the subject. It's a lot easier to inform you of necessary tidbits that way.

Oh, and please try not to double-post. It's okay to bump VERY old topics, but double-posting here is generally not recommended.

And yes, it was kinda difficult to get anywhere past Episode 1, so thanks!
