Title: So I started playing again...
Gendreavus - May 17, 2008 07:16 PM (GMT)
This morning I woke up at 10:00, spent an hour pretending I was still asleep, read a book for a half hour, then was disappointed to find out that it was still only 11:30. I wandered around my room, looking for something to do, when I spied Metroid Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion lying side-by-side on my bookshelf. I reached out for Zero Mission, then decided that I know that game too well, so I plugged Fusion into my GBA slot and started a new game.
I must say that despite all the mean things I've said about the game...I'm really enjoying it. Sure the navigation rooms pop up at annoying rates and Samus feels a little clunky not being able to single wall jump, but all in all I'm enjoying myself. Dare I say, I'm enjoying myself more than I have while playing Zero Mission, or even Super Metroid (blasphemy, I know). I guess you could say that it's been so long since I played Fusion, it's brand new to me...I like it.
Dragon - May 17, 2008 08:04 PM (GMT)
It's not a bad game but it's far too limited as to what you can do and where you can do, in my opinion.
metroid33 - May 17, 2008 08:42 PM (GMT)
Lol. "Where you can do" *giggle*
Anyway, yeah. It is fun, but has its slow moments.
Kuro-chan - May 17, 2008 08:50 PM (GMT)
It's one of Metroid's better offerings, I believe. I don't mind that they streamlined the game more as it better fits the objective of the story they wanted to develop through the game.
Sequence breaking is better left for Metroid games without as large an objective-based storyline.
Are you trying the famous 1% run? I have only done it myself twice and each time was no cakewalk.
Gendreavus - May 17, 2008 08:58 PM (GMT)
I have a file where I'm working on a 1% run. I think I'm stuck either on Nightmare or Yakuza (the spider). I'm going to beat it regularly before I try to finish that run though.
Kuro-chan - May 17, 2008 09:30 PM (GMT)
I had a much easier time with Nightmare than Yakuza. At least Nightmare's moves are predictable,
dragon_slayer - May 30, 2008 02:47 PM (GMT)
What do you mean by 1% run? what is the shortest time it took for you all to beat fusion? it took me about two hours for me. i can beat the majority of the bosses without taking any damage.
Gendreavus - May 31, 2008 07:45 AM (GMT)
A 1% run is when you go through the game getting none of the powerups except for one missile tank in Sector 3 (PYR) that physically cannot be skipped. That is a freaking hard run.
I don't know what my best time is, but I just beat it yesterday. I'll run through the end one more time to see what my time for this run was, although I doubt it will be anywhere near my best thanks to me not knowing where anything was this time.
Kraid 2 cool - May 31, 2008 08:06 AM (GMT)
I believe I have finished Fusion under 2 hours. I'm almost sure I did. Somewhere around 1:40.
GammaMetroid - May 31, 2008 11:26 AM (GMT)
haha i got it in 1:28 i bealive  and also i loved the 1% run but i got stuck at nightmare so i eventually gave up...that was one of the stupidest things i ever done couse now i cant get through Yakuza again and that took me a while on my first 1% run, but this time im determined that i will bring nightmare down
and also Nightmare is alot harder then Yakuza or so i think atleast...
And k2c, Even i´m absolutely sure you did it under 1:40 maybe around 1:30 like me ^_^

The only items in the game which count towards your item count are energy tanks, missile expansions and power bomb expansions. You may obtain all the regular upgrades (You kinda have to since you cannot progress through the game otherwise, a credit to good design there) without them going toward your final count.
A "1%" run requires you to learn things about the bosses, how they move and how you should counter-move to ensure you are not hit. While you can obtain suit upgrades you must realize just how many hits you can safely take before Samus goes bye-bye.
Kraid 2 cool - May 31, 2008 08:26 PM (GMT)
In other words: It's a hell of a challenge.
Hudson Platt - May 31, 2008 08:32 PM (GMT)
Good lord. I would throw my Game Boy across the room on a 1% run! Also, I think I beat the game in 1 hour and 50 something odd minutes... I dunno.
StrafeHunter - June 1, 2008 05:57 AM (GMT)
1% run eh? Man you people are good!
I could probably do it without missiles
and power bombs, but energy tanks?
No way!
Also, my best time is 1h 50 ish <_<
Kuro-chan - June 1, 2008 01:07 PM (GMT)
Nearly every boss you can take at least one hit from.
Your first challenge is Serris-X since he flies around the screen pretty fast, but if you can roughly predict where he is going to appear, then you should have no problems.
Mega Core it is crucial to keep pounding it with weapons fire. It is quite large to dodge and you can only take 2-4 hits from it, depending on how it hits you.
Yakuza is probably your most difficult boss since the movements are pretty much unpredictable so you need to watch out for both the boss and the projectile it fires. I tend to save my missiles for after it loses it's legs.
Nightmare I found to be easier than Yakuza, though longer because of how many hits it takes to down the little bugger.

Twice eh?
*clap clap clap*
I've only done it once...i've been meaning to do a 1% speed run...as soon as i get my DS working....
btw...there's a safe spot for serris' first form...it's quite tricky to find.

Kuro-chan - June 8, 2008 07:26 PM (GMT)
I am curious too. Where?
I managed to develop where I was on the rail, left floor, on the rail, right floor, etc. and I seem to be able to avoid Serris for the most part.
StrafeHunter - June 9, 2008 05:09 PM (GMT)
I usually use the third platform from the left

Actually, its not tricky at all. Third tile from the door, aka, one 'space' over from where you first enter the boss room. There are bumpy floor tiles, then smooth ones, that how you separate the 'spaces'. So the second 'space'. If you sit with Samus' foot right on the edge after the first 'space', Serris can not touch you at all. Then you just fire away. Its pretty easy. This makes for a long boss fight though.
Nightmare? Long boss fight? Are you kidding? Just stand right under him as he is coming up through the floor. Charge up the arm cannon, and fire away when he 'materializes'. Make sure you crouch directly after firing, as to make sure not to get hit by his 'arms'. Two or three charged shots will completely knock out his gravity controller. Then just hop onto the ladder and cram your five missiles (for a 1%) into his face, and charged shots from there on. From the time you enter the room till the time you get gravity, it should take you 40 seconds max. Fastest boss fight out of the whole game, I think.
As for Yakuza, he is a wimp. A 1% run does make it difficult, but still ..
When you first land on the boss room floor, morph just to the right of the center. When the flames come down, they will not hit you, and from that point forward you can stay in morph ball just under Yakuza as he moves around, so that way you know which way to move to avoid being picked up. And if you do it correctly, and stay under him, when he begins to charge to spit the flames, you can charge up the arm cannon and make him eat beam. This should take about three or four times before his legs blow off (at two or three charges into his mouth per time). The next part however, gets a bit tricky. You need to stand one or two tiles from one of the edges (I usually go to the right side), and charge your beam and aim upwards. When he hovers over you, only fire if you can hit his open mouth. After releasing the charge make sure you fire your beam rapidly to get rid of any falling grubs. This takes about another minute of blasting at him (don't move around - it makes it easier to predict his movements if you stay still) till he finally reveal his core X. I usually save my missiles for this part - take down the core fast, wall jump to confuse it.
Metroid Fusion is by far the game that I know best. I don't think I have played any other game as much as Fusion. I don't think I have even eaten as many times in my life as I have beaten Metroid Fusion. I know that dang game better than I know my self.

I respectfully agree.

I have yet to play this game...but sadly i don't have a DS any more...
Kuro-chan - July 6, 2008 01:51 PM (GMT)
It's probably one of the better balanced games in terms of finding items and stuff. You are not really over-powered in any area of the game and items come along right when you need them to progress further.

I have to disagree, Prime is the best, but Fusion has the best story

I have to disagree, Super Metroid has the best story, but Fusion has the best...There are no best in Fusion.

Are you kidding? I respect your opinion and all, but ..
Metroid Fusion basically summed up where the Metroid trilogy left off. Forgetting the Prime games (yes they are good, but I classify them separately), Metroid Fusion basically became everything the series was leading up to.
Samus became what the Chozo wanted and trained her to become. She became the Ultimate Warrior, and what is the Chozo word for the Ultimate Warrior? Metroid. What does Samus have coursing through her veins? Metroid DNA. She is hunting and destroying the very thing that the Metroids were created to defeat - The X-Parasites.
Maybe it is just me, but it seems Fusion really tied up the loose ends. It brought the whole 2d storyline together, and the way it was done was just .. brilliant.
Not to mention the graphics and controls. Way better than the others. This goes without saying, just because it is a newer game, but the level of detail was stunning. Zero Mission just seemed a bit .. dull to me. Fusion had me on the edge of my seat the entire time I played.
I do agree, Super had a great story, and was a great game, but Fusion .. I don't know. Fusion just does it for me, I guess.
As I said, I respect your opinion, but I like to throw mine out there too ^.^
StrafeHunter - July 7, 2008 04:51 PM (GMT)
Fusion was also... Different, All the others were, kill the bosses/metroids, get to the final boss, escape. Fusion had a storyling that didn't just involve killing stuff...
Strike-Freedom - July 15, 2008 10:43 AM (GMT)
Didn't you take "more" damage in fusion? Like...more energy units per damage shot. Like come on, 2 touches on Nightmare you're screwed.
Axion, you are correct about the Serris safe spot. However, mine is on the opposite side, so the ladder is right there to jump on when you roflpwn him.
miles07 - July 15, 2008 10:48 PM (GMT)
Yeah. The idea was that Samus has "less armor on her", so she takes more damage. HOWEVER, that should not apply at ALL, since her health / energy systems / defensive capabilities is based on the suit's SHIELDING, not the armor plating on her.
For those StarCraft people out there... Protoss units. Their shields meters are higher than their actual health meters. Same concept. Once Samus' suit's energy drain to zero, then her suit's life-support systems fail, and she dies.
Or, even, her suit simply shuts down, yet she can still survive, if she is currently in a viable environment.
Strike-Freedom - July 19, 2008 12:48 AM (GMT)
Yet the reality is the same.
Boom.
