Hudson Platt - July 15, 2008 08:57 PM (GMT)
Has anyone noticed the similarity between a flying wasp and a flying aerotrooper
Look.

When they are vertical, they look exactly like aerotrooper.

Here is an aerotrooper:

I believe these were inspired by wasps.

The Aerotrooper in that shot looks like what a KiHunter looks like... LOL...

But yes, Retro and Nintendo used real creatures to base their own on. The Space Pirates, especially, were supposed to be based on insects. Ever seen a Prime Space Pirate's head? Looks and is structured like an ant's face.

StrafeHunter - July 15, 2008 11:13 PM (GMT)
 I always thought they looked like lizards... <_<

Lucifuga - July 16, 2008 10:49 AM (GMT)
Isn't that from Prime 2? Anyway, they looks similar.

I have noticed that Space Pirate varities look alot like insects. That is a very good comparison. They look the same in many aspects.

They did in Prime one. They kinda did in Echoes. But in Corruption, they made them look reptilian. Why did they change them? I like the wiry, insect-like frame...

I'm a fan of the bulky, backwards-jointed leg "Lizard" design, personally. Also, there's no doubt that the similarities were intended. Nintendo based most Pirates off of insectoids. XD

miles07 - July 18, 2008 09:12 PM (GMT)
Which is exactly what I said...

Hudson Platt - July 19, 2008 04:08 AM (GMT)
Meh, he's Glass Pirate. He can do things like that.

Pirate_Commander - February 25, 2009 04:22 PM (GMT)
but the ones on the frigate were reptillian like

Miles07 - February 25, 2009 05:02 PM (GMT)
Well, there's obviously been a mixture between the two...

Adorios The Metalloid Assasin - February 25, 2009 07:05 PM (GMT)
ALL the ones in prime were reptilian like.

and i think they made the ones in corruption more lizardy to show resemblance to ridley, in a way.

and waitasec!

look!

theres something controversial in that pic!

there is a metroid being used as a power source in that pic!

isnt that what the space pirates were trying to accomplish in the other games?

so, does this mean........dread?.......

Kuro-chan - February 25, 2009 10:38 PM (GMT)
Ha! I looked at that and that was the very first thing I thought too!

The Aerotroopers all looked very different in each of the Prime games, and all of them were annoying...

I can see the insect-like resemblence in what was described though. When I first caught the thread topic, I figured this was about commonalities in all the War Wasp and Aerotrooper designs.

Three words:
IN
SPIR
ATION.

'Nuff said.

Dirge - April 30, 2009 07:30 AM (GMT)
I remember when Space pirates used to be bugs.....

Personally, I belive it may be possibly what you say, because the space pirates/science team are always exploring new ways/harvesting/learning about these creatures on newly discovered planets for warfare use. They must have saw how effective War wasps were and remodeled the Aerotrooper Jet packs to allow them to be just as effective.

I think that aeropirate was a concept art for how the Ki-Hunters would have looked like in Metroid Prime, and they where infact going to use the Metroid as a power source.

But as with Kraid they didn't have enough time to set them into the plot

Metroidude - May 11, 2009 09:49 PM (GMT)
Man, That's cruel to use metroids as power sources! Even for those life-sucking parasites!
And yes, It does look like it. But war wasps more likely.

The reason they changed the space pirates to reptiles in MP3, was because they wanted them to be cold-blooded. LOL JK

ah I know that wasp any where...thats a Tarantula hawk wasp. I thought the prime one pirates were more like a cricket then an ant.

Space pirates look a lot cooler in the prime seies than in the sidescrollers, dont u think?
