My brain just hatched an idea. ("Lay it on me.")
Since Game Maker requires a registered version in order to get the good and better stuff in it, there have only ever been two options: 1) find some small ways to cheat the system, or 2) pay for the Registered version (GMR).
Well, I went over to the GameMaker site and saw this:

Upgrading to GameMaker 7.0 Upgrading your key: Old version 5/6 registration keys can be exchanged for version 7 activation codes for FREE. Please enter your game maker version 5/6 key in the form below to receive your new Activation Key. School License Upgrades: For school license upgrades please contact the helpdesk with information of the school you wish to register Game Maker 7 with, and a valid current license key. If users are having any issues with their GM7 license keys then please read the FAQ in the help section or submit a helpdesk ticket... |
So, if you already have purchased GameMaker in the past, will this "activation code" allow you to upgrade your older version of GameMaker to the current 7.0 Pro?
And will the key work for more than one computer?
All I'm saying is this: Perhaps we as fellow members of MHQ, in order to form a more perfect fangame-making community, can share registration keys and activate ALL of our GM programs that we have/use. I'm not sure of the legality of this, but before any further action is taken, I'd like to know if MetroidMaster will give the go-ahead for this. AND who'll be willing to share their Product Key. AND who says this is a good idea.
AND whether this can be contained to the site.
The main problem is keeping others from "stealing" the keys. That's why, MM, I was PMing you about whether or not Admins and Mods can check on the content of PMs. And PMing keys and the registration email addresses are the only way to be as secure as possible.
BUT anyone who gets a product code and email address that work successfully must NEVER reveal it to anyone else. Agreed?
Alright, the answer plain and simple, no.
Sharing keys for a paid program is illegal, but say it is for your own computers, even that has a limit of 3 computers based on the ToS.
Keys aren't required for running the programs, just needed to unlock a few features that make coding a few things easier in the editor itself, and just the single use of the key is needed.
And one thing commonly seen through applications these days, say a key is leaked on the internet, someone on their team goes searching the net for leaked keys, and what happens? They change the program to no longer work with that key, so even the legit owner of that key gets flagged as using an illegal key.
Sure it may be nice for some people to get keys in this manner, but MHQ shalln't support illegal activity.
Sorry for replying, but he asked me to reply here as well.
Shrander is indeed correct. What you are proposing is illegal, and as such MHQ will have no part in it whatsoever.
