Title: Ch-ch-ch-ch-CHANGES!
Description: "Turn to face the strange..."

Adorios The Metalloid Assasin - November 9, 2008 09:43 PM (GMT)
So, after 22 years, metroid has changed ALOT.
just look at some of the art for the first one.

ART

I mean, kraid is FURRY, and ridley has 5 EYES!
and metroids are tentacley. (which makes more sense than fangs)

And today, everything is just so much more different. It's kinda scary...

What would metroid be like today if all of the original designs stayed the same?
It's just so strange.....

Got_Metroid??? - November 9, 2008 10:43 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't really say it's scary. Metroid has been around a long time, obviously the art is going to change. Still, Metroid has developed more steadily than Nintendo's other franchises. Mario's art style and gameplay hasn't changed too much and neither has Zelda's, at least when you compare to Metroid.

I kind of like Metroid 1's style, a cell-shaded cartoon Metroid in that style would be an interesting game...

Adorios The Metalloid Assasin - November 9, 2008 10:50 PM (GMT)
but Ridley had 5 EYES!!!! and he looked like a bug!

fly_boy42 - November 10, 2008 07:27 PM (GMT)
All of the art was mad after and from the game, kraid always had scales, the artist got it wrong

Too...Much....''Cartoon''...references...

Yes, you're right. I like the Prime art best. The NES games all have weird art. Look at Megaman.

kenji imatake - November 10, 2008 08:47 PM (GMT)
mine would have to be fusion art... it was cool.

+1

Lucifuga - November 10, 2008 09:50 PM (GMT)
I hate Fusion. It's too...Manga-ish. I suck at complaining.
The art in Prime is beautiful. The creaturss, weapons and landscapes are amazing.

+ 14 points to Got_Metroid???.

And yeah, the original art is a lot... different... compared to what they REALLY came out as (Superoid art..).

Adorios The Metalloid Assasin - November 12, 2008 01:52 PM (GMT)
Actually, it turns out that M2 had the art that samus is recognised as today. check it out.

kenji imatake - November 12, 2008 10:08 PM (GMT)
it does. It Is one of my favorite modes of art for metroid too... actually, all of them are good =P

Adorios The Metalloid Assasin - November 13, 2008 05:36 AM (GMT)
Speaking of Changes....

This, this, this, this and this are the coolest stages of change I have ever seen. So cool.

It's kinda obvious who it is... :ph43r:

Miles07 - November 13, 2008 06:48 AM (GMT)
Yeah. Equally cool, IMO, is the sequence of changes for the PED suit in Corruption. Nice. Kuro-chan, if you're seeing this topic, THOSE are the next things you should do for your "collection"...

Adorios The Metalloid Assasin - November 13, 2008 04:22 PM (GMT)
I personally liked the different arm cannon concepts they went through for MP3. they were possibly the COOLEST arm cannons I've ever seen. it feels like they come up with all of these new awesome ideas and then just throw them away for the old stuff. i mean, the old stuff for MP3 was AWESOME!!!!!

Miles07 - November 13, 2008 06:48 PM (GMT)
^^ Agree. Hehe... "What if..?" is the big question in regards to those beta concept designs...

fly_boy42 - November 13, 2008 08:04 PM (GMT)
It's just like me having to create people from 40x40px pixelized to death images.
And to whoever soviet magnemite is, I'm dropping the hammer and sickle from your magnets, they look bad too easily.

Miles07 - November 14, 2008 04:31 PM (GMT)
Well, wouldn't they just stick onto them, seeing as (s)he's a bit magnet?

fly_boy42 - November 14, 2008 05:03 PM (GMT)
I don't get it... was he talking about magnemite or samus?
If he was talking about magnemite, it makes no sense because the ability to be magnetized has nothing to do with being drawn well.
If e was talking about samus, I have no idea what he's talking about, and he's probably talking about one of the four metroid games I haven't played.

Adorios The Metalloid Assasin - November 15, 2008 09:28 PM (GMT)
i think it was just a pun.

Miles07 - November 17, 2008 08:20 PM (GMT)
Hammer and Sickle... How would else would they "adhere" to the Magnemite... other than by magnetic attraction?

fly_boy42 - November 17, 2008 08:57 PM (GMT)
stickers, paint, decals...
flat surfaces, man

Miles07 - November 18, 2008 05:20 AM (GMT)
Sprites > Polygons
Pre-rendered < Textured

The 2D / 3D wars continue...

*off-topic*

StrafeHunter - November 18, 2008 05:39 PM (GMT)
3D WINS!!!

Miles07 - November 19, 2008 06:18 AM (GMT)
No, it's a constant battle. 3D wins? I say look at Mega Man 9.

Adorios The Metalloid Assasin - November 19, 2008 01:46 PM (GMT)
Yeah. 2d games are the bomb when it comes to playability.

StrafeHunter - November 19, 2008 06:07 PM (GMT)
Never played it. But look at Prime!

Lucifuga - November 19, 2008 08:58 PM (GMT)
Prime might be the greatest Metroid game ever. But Super Metroid is not far behind.
If you haven't played Super yet. I strongly suggest that you do.

StrafeHunter - November 19, 2008 09:37 PM (GMT)
I have, it is the best 2D!

Miles07 - November 19, 2008 10:07 PM (GMT)
I say Super Mario Bros. 3. But that's just me.

Metroid prime is literally the remake of Super, just 3-d. and phazony. I mean, they have almost all the correct components.

Crateria : tallon overworld (notice both are raining)

Chozo ruins : chozo ruins

Norfair : Magmoor (with same music :D )

Maridia : Phendrana

Wrecked Ship : Wrecked Frigate

: Phazon Mines

Tourian : Impact crater

also, they share the exact same weapons, and the artifact temple is alot like the final boss statue in superoid.

Well...It rains on Zebes too...It adds to the Metroid experience.
QUOTE
Chozo ruins : chozo ruins

There are no Chozo Ruins in SM, only Brinstar and they aren't very similar.
QUOTE
Norfair : Magmoor (with same music  :D )

These, however, are. But instead of ruins like in Lower Norfair, in Magmoor Caverns there are machinery and stuff.
QUOTE
Maridia : Phendrana

These two are way different. Both are cold. That's about it.
QUOTE
Wrecked Ship : Wrecked Frigate

There pretty much the same. No ghosts in the crashed frigate though...

Hmm...Don't know about the Boss Statue/Gate thingy...I guess they're similar in a way...

Adorios The Metalloid Assasin - November 20, 2008 09:40 PM (GMT)
Only said phendrana : maridia because they both were filled with water. lots of it.

and there was ALOT of machinery in norfair.

Miles07 - November 20, 2008 10:18 PM (GMT)
Ehh, I sorta see your point on that, Adorios. But I don't really buy it. SM and MP1 can't compare to each other... 'cuz the 3D / 2D War gets in the way of it... Hehe...

kenji imatake - November 21, 2008 06:34 AM (GMT)
Id disagree on tourian being even close to impact crater... well it depends..... tourian is more closely similar to phazon mines or something.

Adorios The Metalloid Assasin - November 21, 2008 06:37 AM (GMT)
well, it was only because of the fact that there were metroids and annoying orange stuff that killed you.

Miles07 - November 21, 2008 06:37 AM (GMT)
His argument are that they're both "last area"s.

kenji imatake - November 23, 2008 06:45 AM (GMT)
well, besides the metroids and the highly mutated phazon... and being the fact that their both last areas, there aren't much similarities between how they look. also, one comes from a foreign planet, bear that in mind.

Miles07 - November 23, 2008 07:14 AM (GMT)
One is the inside of a Leviathan seed, the other an installation made from a foreign alien species.

Both get un-installed. Similar, no?

Adorios The Metalloid Assasin - November 23, 2008 04:42 PM (GMT)
well, out of all the games, mp1 and superoid are the most alike.

i mean, you cant really compare mp2 with fusion, can you?

wait..................................yes you can. sorta........

kenji imatake - November 23, 2008 09:42 PM (GMT)
Ing....... and X?
