Title: Extermination?
Description: we need more space...

Adorios The Metalloid Assasin - November 19, 2008 05:18 AM (GMT)
Well, I've taken notice to the fact that more than half of the members here are still Metroid eggs. and they've been here for more than a year now. to put it blatantly, they're basically rotten eggs. so, i know that we can ban members when they are being bad, but what about the people who didn't give a crap about the site/couldn't get pat the entire "post twice to access forums" thing. i remember even when i had trouble with that thingy. so.....

is it possible to delete all rotten eggs who have been stinking up the place for a while in the fridge? because it also leaves a bad impression on the site. so, we could send a pm to all the people who are still eggs to notify them, and if they dont come back, then they disappear. it's kinda sad how a bunch of members never got to the forum...

its up to the mods, though.

Agree. Still, that'd kill the member numbers we have, but at least then that'd leave all the REAL fans of MHQ.

AND I have an idea that'll get some more posts from new members, but it would be a bit annoying to sort that all out with this "eggstermination" going on at the same time...

I don't see the point.

If the site were really that desperate for streamlining, deleting users is not the first thing to do, and otherwise, it's just a huge waste of time for the modmins.

Miles07 - November 19, 2008 10:12 PM (GMT)
But OTHERWISE it's a huge waste of data for each member...

Emperor - November 19, 2008 10:43 PM (GMT)
Not really, the bulk of a forum database is topics and posts, the members themselves don't take up nearly as much room.

Aside from obvious spam bots (that tend to get deleted anyway), I don't really see why we'd need to trim the user base. Sure it'd be nice if those people were active and posting, but some people prefer to lurk as it is.

I also don't think there's any IF option to mass delete people based on activity, the admins would have manually delete each and every one.

Large posted graphics and stuff take up a lot more space than a database of user accounts.

Even though half the metroids here are still in a larvae stage, they did bother to register, so what would be the gain to remove them?

Communist Shark - November 21, 2008 02:19 AM (GMT)
They take up 40kb at the very most.

Miles07 - November 21, 2008 05:38 AM (GMT)
But are pointless. Now look how many posts we've spent on the subject... More data spent talking about how to clean up data.

Can we eat them? I know fly_boy would...

 !!!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes, strafe, i wonder what is going on underneath that party hat....

(inside: a bunch of metroids doing the conga)

StrafeHunter - November 21, 2008 07:27 PM (GMT)
Thats about right... But even I have to wonder what goes on in fly_boy's head...

fly_boy42 - November 21, 2008 07:41 PM (GMT)
I'm not one for eggs. Ironically, in real life, I rarely eat anything.

Also, I'm crazy.

StrafeHunter - November 21, 2008 07:48 PM (GMT)
Good to know! But food is good, never forget that!

Data you tend to like using up yourself with useless posts.
An example I remember, the topic about applying to be a henchmen on a certain site, you felt like wasting space with:
*is not evil*
*ignores topic*

If you have nothing productive to say, don't say, it's like you are trying to gain XBox Points.

fly_boy42 - February 21, 2009 02:54 AM (GMT)
I'm going to cry.

This topic is old, and the issue has been decided.
