Title: Pacifist run
Description: My time

Gendreavus - December 29, 2004 08:31 PM (GMT)
Have you ever heard of a No-Boss-Mini-Boss run (a.k.a. an NBMB run)? I just finished the complete opposite of that, what I have dubbed the Pacifist run. In this run, instead of playing Samus Aran: Intergalactic kicker of other thing's butts, you play Samus Aran: Intergalactic Hippie of Space Pirate Doom. Basically instead of not beating any of the Bosses or Minibosses, you only beat the bosses and mini bosses. The list of things you are allowed to beat is:

1. Skrees (they were about to die anyway)
2. The wasp hives (you need to kill them in order to get to the bombs)
3. The little parasite bugs in the Morph Ball Bomb room (since you need to kill them to unlock the door)
4. The hanging larvae mini boss (to get into Ridley)
5. Ridley (The bum needed to die anyway)
6. Kraid (He was probably about to suffer a heart attack from all that unneccecary fat)
7. Rinkas (I don't know how you can get past Tourain without killing those Cherrios)
8. Metroids (duh)
9. Zebetites (to get to MB)
10. Mother Brain (duh again)
11. Space Pirates (evil little devils)
12. Mecha Ridley (He was a robot, so it's not technically killing)

Tips:
1. You do not kill the brinstar or Kraid worms, meaning that you must do Kraid w/o zip lines and skip the charge beam.
2. You need to get the speed booster and use it to get across the room filled with Rios right after killing Kraid since you did not activate the zip lines. Be sure not to kill any Rios when they swarm you.
3. You can freeze enemies. This is a great way to not kill something, but still get past them without getting hurt.

All in all, this is a pretty tough run, but I did it without dying (although I also do 10% runs without dying...I wonder what that means...).

My time was 1:10:49 with 49%

If I missed something that you need to kill, post and tell me so I can update the list.

Pacifist run...intriguing! another reason to replay the Metroid: Zero Mission!!!

I shall attempt now...

P.S.: what kind of stupid idiot made up the NBMB run? How do you expect to beat the game if you dont kill the bosses? <_<

Gendreavus - February 13, 2005 06:12 PM (GMT)
That was the point of the run, to get as many items as you could without beating the bosses, thus never finishing the game, but you're right, it is pretty useless.

Wow,seems like a kool way to speed run! I do something like that but I try to kill EVERYTHING!(Really, even things that don't need to die.) -_-

Gendreavus - February 13, 2005 08:38 PM (GMT)
You'd actually be surprised at it's ease. It was a lot easier when I took my thumb off of the B button (where I naturally let it sit when playing) and put it on the A button. The hardest part about this run in my opinion is doing Kraid w/o ziplines, but a bit of practice can solve that. If you need to know how do do Kraid w/o ziplines, check here

Cool! :D

Gendreavus - February 16, 2005 02:19 AM (GMT)
Yup. That's a trick that I've recently started to use in my speed runs. That's the only reason I have a time under 40 mins.

You need to kill dessgeeegas, you know rightg after you get the long beam.

Gendreavus - November 21, 2005 05:00 AM (GMT)
The long beam isn't necessary though, and even if you get it, you don't have to go through the room with the Desgeegas (or however you spell that).

Does suicide break the rules of the pacifist run?

Gendreavus - February 17, 2006 01:00 AM (GMT)
If you mean if you accidentally kill something, then suicide is really your only option other than pressing A+B+start+select.

thats suicide? just jump in some lava!

MaxPwnage - February 22, 2006 01:34 AM (GMT)
No, I mean does shooting yourself count against you.

What? I found this (unrepeatable, unfortunately) glitch where, whenever I shot, the shots would come from behind me and hurt me. It was after playing approx. 1211878733676787678336744 times 10 to the 42nd power, and the game was literally crying.

miles07 - February 22, 2006 04:01 PM (GMT)
??? Are you sure you're talking about Zero Mission? You may have confused this with a fangame look-alike...

MaxPwnage - February 22, 2006 11:43 PM (GMT)
no, I mean ZM. I got the :gba: cartridge a while back, and have played it twice more than originally stated. That was the device that was all wacko...

miles07 - February 23, 2006 04:04 PM (GMT)
You must have run into a glitch or a bad proxy of some sort that the developers haven't detected in the game. Where and when did you get caught in this bug?

MaxPwnage - February 23, 2006 11:52 PM (GMT)
On the 5 freeway during rush hour, 8:28:37 on Aug 21st, last year. You asked for the time/place, you got it.

miles07 - February 24, 2006 04:06 PM (GMT)
<_< Not funny...
Where in the game? norfair? Brinstar? Before the Mother Brain? After? When?

MaxPwnage - February 24, 2006 10:18 PM (GMT)
Check my last post.

Actually, I was in the pirate ship during the suitless sequence. That was the one thing that made this glitch so annoying--although it would have done more damage, I wish it had happened w/ ice beam, so I could see a glitched frozen Samus.

miles07 - February 27, 2006 04:01 PM (GMT)
Can you catch up to your beam? I can! Run a little, but time it so that you shoot right before your Speed Booster kicks in. You end up catching up to your beam!
