At www.metroid.jp, a new banner has appeared, once you skip through the adverts for the Prime series. It is down the bottom, and has a header in English, reading "Another Side Story -coming soon-", then a sub-title in Japanese, which translates roughly to "Follow the history of Metroid from the viewpoint of the Space Pirates" (my Japanese isn't brilliant, but I think that's correct).

I'm just wondering what this is. A new game where you play as a Space Pirate would be amazing.

That would be very cool indeed, as long as it wasnt a game like hunters. I strongly loath hunters. But playing as a pirate would be cool, especialy if it had multiplayer.

Playing as a Space Pirate would be interesting. I wonder how it would work? None of the normal power ups - Morph Ball, etc - would work. After all, the Space Pirates did try making mocks of Samus's weaponry, such as the Beam Troopers, but they were weak, and the attempted Morph Balls just contorted and destroyed the users' bodies, according to the MP3 scans.

If it's a new game..It hope it comes out soon. Just like the banner says.

EDIT: Yeah, whoever it was that bought the rights for the movie, either he's taking his time making it a masterpiece (which is good) or he forgot about it. (which is not good) ps: It should be CG.

Metroid should never be turned into a movie. Most video game movies are really bad (Mortal Kombat 1 and 2, Street fighter, Blood Rein ex.), and I'd rather not have Hollywood screw up Metroid's reputation. And to reply to Crab, if the game were to be centered around Space Pirates, it would probably have to have entirely different gameplay than the rest of the games. I'm guessing it'll be focused more on action and shooting rather than exploration. Sound familiar? Metroid Prime Hunters anyone? They also referenced the game as "another side story," so I wouldn't be surprised if I'm right.

Playing as a Space Pirate would be... weird. :/
I mean, would Samus be considered a "boss" fight? What about enemies? Who exactly would you fight? GF troopers?
Maybe you still play as Samus, but you find out more about the space pirates' backgrounds/motives.

..I just realized something. You guys know about the SSBB trophies of the Hunters right? Perhaps those are early version of future models... D: Maybe we'll finally find out if that was Sylux's ship at the end of Corruption..

or maybe... that wasn't anyone's ship we have guessed at all. it could be a new type of space pirate ship that has not been shown yet... or we could be way off.

Fighting Samus for once would be awesome. and I'm sure the creatures of Zebes aren't exactly friendly with the Pirates, so they might be enemies. I mean, they're wild animals right?

And maybe they'll bring back Ridley for the thousandth time ^^

it would be funny though... there would be a group of federation troopers standing around and they would go like "Earthquake!" then Kraid (the player) would come out of the wall and do a bodyslam on them... then you couldn't get back up...

well depends on which kraid, if MZM's... then well, you are one easy target. if SM's, you can move a bit more.

If it's not going to be samus, I don't think it will be one of samus's enemies, because who would want to play a game where they know the ending?

That wasn't Samus. It never used any abilites. Just jumped and shot. No morph or anything.

actually... it did go into morphball. remember sec.6? SA-X came, went into morphball and laid a power bomb? she also just doesn't jump and shoot, she sometimes fires missiles/ super missiles too.

Important crap: for some reason, metroid database thinks that the thing at metroid.jp is a complete misread, where it is supposed to mean that the "coming soon" is only hinting at the wii games.

but if thay is so, then how come it is still there, and the wii games are displayed on the page along with it? hmmmm?
