Title: Some sprites
Description: yup, some more sprites...

I have been working on some pretty interesting projects over the past few days, take a look:
http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff4/str...rksuitWIP-2.pngthis ones an older sheet but I am getting to it after the dark suit:
http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff4/str...Gandraydav5.pngI have recently been trying to bring things from the 3D games into the 2D world that have NOT been made yet or were poorly done. I have been working on human type sprites (ex. samus, gandrayda, spire, rundas, etc...) and also these were sheets I said I would do and never got to finish them (yes I am working on them now though) so what does anyone think about it? C+C? any suggestions? and yes, don't tell me Gandrayda facing either side is off... I already know.

Your Dark Suit sprites are looking really good. In my opinion the colors are spot on. I assume you based it off of the Zero Mission Samus sprite? If so, did you start with the Varia or with the Gravity? I am just curious, I usually start with the Gravity version when I do custom suits.
Do you plan to do a standard (non space or screw) spin jump?
As far as the Gandrayda sheet goes, it is looking good as well. The only thing is she looks like she is leaning back too much in her side view. I have to say that is a hard one to sprite. If it was implemented into a game, you would have to play with the colors, and the in game opacity, to get her to look just right. Gotta remember she is kinda clear-ish. It would also be interesting to see how you could sprite a transformation of her from say, a pirate to her normal form.
Speaking of pirates .. have you seen anyone attempt to sprite a Prime 3 style pirate?

yeah, the dark suit is MZM style after all. I started with the varia because the pallet for it is actually the varia suit's pallet just darkened to brown. I will be adding a spin jump because supposedly she can in prime 2 (look at the ending or the multiplayer mode, she does fast spin jumping like moves in it) Gandrayda was last worked on a couple months ago, the side like I said I know was messed up was suppose to be added onto some other animations that made her kinda animate like rundas in the log book, eager to fight. it's going to be a while before I implant transformation, but I will =P and about the space pirates... I have only seen the ones from the first prime (including aero, shadow, injured, dead, beam, and under water pirates...all the pirates) the one from hunters in the cutscene, the one from prime 2 along with the pirate Commandos, and only one from prime 3 I think I remember seeing... the space pirate commander. not very much animation to the sheet, but thats the only one.

1. Did you use my palette for the Dark Suit? Nice job.
2. Gandrayda's skin is transparent, but not her insides.
3. An MP3C Pirate, MZM-style, would be p-awesome. Indeed. Someone on TSR should do that... ;)

oh, I have an update for the dark suit btw. It has the WIP turning sprites:
http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff4/str...rksuitWIP-3.pngit's kinda hard to get the turning done right so I tested the animation of the shoulder part before adding it.... it works out great. hmm... I may have to cut out Gandrayda's insides (eww!) from the sprites then. how's the dark suit coming along?

Don't forget to use Infinity's End's sprite sheet as a checklist, to make sure you have every required sprite.
It's coming out great.
As for Gandrayda, I envy you. I've always wanted to tear her guts out... B)

haha poor gandrayda (not that I am a fan of hers though...) so far all I have been doing is just working on the turning animation so I'll have an update on that. heres some animation test of the lighting:

I had to enlarge it because the original size was too small.

UPDATE! I have more of the dark suit, but the important thing is the turning:

does it look like it will work out ok? I haven't tested the animation, except for the shoulders, I tested those and they work great.

My only concern with the flickering lights dark suit is that the lights in question do not actually "strobe". It looks very neat like that :), but that does not actually happen in MP2.
kenji imatake - March 27, 2009 05:01 PM (GMT)
yeah, I know it never "glows" but because it's MZM style, I added it AND because it wouldn't really look natural looking at it in 3rd person, ya get what I mean? but what about the turning? do they look OK?
Kuro-chan - March 28, 2009 04:11 AM (GMT)
sprites #2 and #3... one thing I noticed is the shoulders feel a little "angled as in like an octagon instead of a circle" and maybe a touch too close to each other. The arm cannon, body and legs look quite well done when turning.
kenji imatake - March 28, 2009 07:30 PM (GMT)
hmm... looking at the overall shape your right... I tried to fix it, but that would probably mean shrinking the size, and the size for this I tried to put as just right. I know the animation of the shoulder works out well:

there's not much I can do to fix the shape of the shoulder while keeping the size the same though. It may have to stay an octagon only if I find an alternative way without changing size.
Kuro-chan - March 29, 2009 03:53 AM (GMT)
Sorry. I was nothing thinking their size at all. I was thinking of "Where" they sat on the shoulders.
