Title: Sequnce Breaker Galore!
Description: What ones have you done?

ProtoTroid Gamma - April 20, 2009 06:38 PM (GMT)
I just recently went overboard and did the 'Kill Ridley Before Kraid' sequence breaker. It was much harder with having the Speed Booster, and all those missiles and stuff to give you a hand.
So, what ones have you done?
(Note: Is there a power bomb sequence breaker?: True or False?)

Metroidude - April 20, 2009 06:43 PM (GMT)
Lets just say I killed the Imago with a super missile.
And I did the Screw attack one. And once, I did the Varia Suit one.
Plus, the Super Missile expansions after getting the Super missile early.
PS I'll PM you the answer to the true/false question, as to not give it away.

HistoryEater - April 20, 2009 07:35 PM (GMT)
there is a power bomb sequence breaker, but i still cant find it. -.-

i know it exists because you can get a green plasma beam.

Gendreavus - April 20, 2009 09:47 PM (GMT)
Nope, they made sure you couldn't get the Power Bombs before Chozodia, and the only way you could get a green plasma beam would be to skip the ice beam, and that would make it impossible to get through Tourain.

I've done just about every sequence break there is in the game, whether it's useful or not. I lived and breathed this game for a long time, and found myself relishing every challenge it could throw at me, and even made up some of my own to keep the game alive. Here's some to try if you ever get bored with the game:

Getting to Kraid without activating the ziplines
The 9% run (on hard if you're feeling especially gutsy)
Getting the Super Missiles without entering Norfair once
A pacifist run (where you kill absolutely nothing that isn't required to be killed for the game's completion. Forces you to do the Kraid w/o zipline trick).

Metroidude - April 20, 2009 10:06 PM (GMT)
The only thing I've done that you listed is the super missile one.

Gendreavus - April 21, 2009 06:36 AM (GMT)
You got the Super Missile tank in Crateria? Good job. Didn't you say you sucked at shinesparking though? That takes a fairly complicated one to do right.

ProtoTroid Gamma - April 21, 2009 12:23 PM (GMT)
Metroidude already got the answer. As everyone should know, it is indeed, FALSE.
Well anyway, wow, I had no idea about that zipline-skip Sequence breaker. I might try that sometime, on normal mode.

Metroidude - April 21, 2009 09:32 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I might too.
PS it took me over 3 hours in that darn place, trying to wall-jump enough times to do it!

Miles07 - April 22, 2009 05:43 AM (GMT)
Wall-jump was a pain for you? Hehe, try the "skip the Speed Booster and make your way to Ridley's Hideout after you get the Ice Beam" breaker. Haha, Icing, Walljumps, infinite bombjumps - that trick was awesome once I finally figured out how to get through all that.

Gendreavus - April 22, 2009 08:13 AM (GMT)
The trick to single-wall walljumps is to remember to hold the A button down for as long as you can. When I was learning how to do it I made the mistake of just tapping the A button for each jump, but if you hold it down you actually get some decent vertical distance out of each jump instead of needing to do a whole bunch of jumps just to get up one tile.

Dude, I actually did that. I didn't think I could, but I did.

I did this the second day of the release of this game. I was so proud. I think I was one of the first people in the world to discover it. But I can't gloat as I have no proof :(

Except the way I did it was the without Speed boot/screw attack method. The path of no return.

Gendreavus - May 1, 2009 01:39 AM (GMT)
The Path of No Return? You mean as in you have to get through to Ridley before you can return, right? It shouldn't block you off permanently...

There is no way you can get back as far as I can tell. You don't have hi-jump. you don't have Scrw attack, you don't have Speed boost, unless there's some sort of technique I haven't learned Im pretty sre its impossible to make it back....

I usually get to Ridley in the first 13 minutes of play, if that helps.

Metroidude - May 1, 2009 12:02 PM (GMT)
HOLY ****! You're fast!
I have never gone for an SR...

Gendreavus - May 1, 2009 09:38 PM (GMT)
If you get to Ridley without getting the hi-jump boots or the screw attack, you can always head down and beat him, then go to the place that rockets you back up to the area where the Screw Attack is. It's been a while since I played ZM, so I can't remember where exactly that area is, but I know that since the speed booster, hi-jump boots, and screw attack are all optional pickups, there's no way you can get stuck somewhere for not having them.

Metroidude - May 2, 2009 02:02 PM (GMT)
so is the Varia Suit. It's hidden. I'll bet most 1st time players don't find it!

SniperStorm - May 2, 2009 05:47 PM (GMT)
How long does it take you to beat the game? Dirge

ProtoTroid Gamma - May 2, 2009 11:45 PM (GMT)
I got 96% once. . . 96 freakin percent! That be a record for me.
Also, the tank in Chozodia, I know how to get it. It's a complicated puzzle involving the Shinespark. It's actually not very complicated, it just depends on how good you are with shinespark.

Metroidude - May 3, 2009 05:04 PM (GMT)
the highest I got was 80%! Lucky!

You can't do that because you need speed booster to get to the rocket thing or something.

Also sorry about the misinformed time, that was the amount of time it takes to get to Kraid,

Ridley is more like 30 minutes on this run.

I'm replaying now just to make sure there is NO posible way to get back

...

Fighting Ridley now.

EDIT:

Its not possible. Unless there is something I am missing [screw attack, speed booster]

Lucifuga - May 4, 2009 09:12 PM (GMT)
You can't skip the Speed Booster, can you?

You can if you don't want to complete the game and show off lol

Dirge, you are dead wrong (I think I made a pun). You CAN get through Norfair and everything without beating Kraid first. Oh the joys of bombing and shooting walls *hint hint*

Gendreavus - May 5, 2009 01:05 AM (GMT)
I figured out where you're getting stuck! Check out the second segment of this speed run. About two and a half minutes in, he gets to where you're getting stuck.

dang! I am kicking myself so hard right now. All these years I thought it was impossible. That was the first of the 3 bomb cannons I found in Norfair too!!! >_< This is pretty embarrassing! heh. Thanks for clearing that up!!

Gendreavus - May 5, 2009 07:19 AM (GMT)
No problem. It's one of those ones that you really have trouble noticing if you don't know that it's there. The only reason I found out about it was because I went Power Bomb happy in Norfair once and wondered what the speed booster blocks in the ground at the bottom of the shaft were from, so I investigated everything underneath it. Going Power Bomb happy leads to some excellent discoveries.

Lucifuga - May 5, 2009 01:57 PM (GMT)
One interesting thing to know for all of you (GIGA)sequence breakers is that where there are Screw Attack blocks, there are usually some hidden missile blocks. Maybe always.

Is there a list of skippable items? I'm pretty sure you don't need the Power Grab...ber...Power Grapple?

Metroidude - May 6, 2009 12:38 AM (GMT)
well, It's kinda hard to skip that big pit in Crateria.

ProtoTroid Gamma - May 6, 2009 12:35 PM (GMT)
It's 'Power Grip' and yes you need that. As metroidude said, it's kinda hard to skip that big pit in crateria.

Lucifuga - May 6, 2009 04:19 PM (GMT)
Can't you just Diagonal Bomb Jump over that?
Like this?

Metroidude - May 6, 2009 09:54 PM (GMT)
You know how hard that is!? Darn you, acid!!

Gendreavus - May 7, 2009 09:44 AM (GMT)
The Power Grip is required, I just can't remember why right now. I know it's easy enough to get out of the gap even after you fall into it thanks to the infinite bomb-jump, but I can't remember what the obstacle was that kept you from doing it...

Lucifuga - May 7, 2009 10:25 AM (GMT)
Hmhmhm...
I remember attempting a low % run without the power grip but I got stuck somewhere. I can't remember where...
I'm pretty sure you can't make it to Ridley without it.

Dirge - May 8, 2009 05:04 AM (GMT)
I tried to do the 15% run. I'm failing miserably at it ;__; I need to review my game plan/see what others did before continuing.

Gendreavus - May 8, 2009 09:14 AM (GMT)
When I did 15% runs hardcore, I always went with having four energy tanks, two Super Missile tanks, and the Screw Attack as my six extras (on top of the 9 required items: Morph Ball, one Missile tank, Morph Ball Bombs, the Vaia Suit, the three "Mystery" items, the Power Grip, and the Ice Beam). If you're doing it on Hard Mode, I swapped one Energy Tank for the High Jump Boots so that you don't fry during the post-Mother Brain escape sequence.

Dirge - May 12, 2009 12:19 AM (GMT)
I haven't played in so long ;__; I had this game inside out memorized and had everything good to go. I just needed to beat Ridley and that was it. Something screwed me over though...I dont remember what. Gah. Waaay too long since I last played.

ProtoTroid Gamma - May 13, 2009 01:04 PM (GMT)
*sighs* There is just one, ONE dang power up I can't get. It's in the freakin landing area, the one you can only get after the gravity suit.
I've tried everything.

Metroidude - May 13, 2009 09:48 PM (GMT)
You mean the Power bomb expansion?

Strike-Freedom - May 17, 2009 09:26 PM (GMT)
I spent part of my 15% run with the long beam. It makes life easier. Seriously.

At any rate, I also got the power grip, which I do believe is mandatory.

I did skip the wave beam though.

I got 2 energy tanks, I didn't need much after doing the 1% run on MF, ammo was a relief. Though in MF, the beat seemed to work better than the ammo lmao.
