Title: Modest Proposals
Sylux125 - April 29, 2009 02:18 AM (GMT)
Well, our world is screwed up. There's no doubt about it. everything about our way of life harms the environment. Everyday, some one goes crazy and kills somone. In this thread, propose some solutions, realistic or not. I might as well start
For our garbage problem. Launch it into the sun. I am willing to pay good money to bet that it would do absolutely no damage to any delicate solar balance or whatnot. All of our garbage put together would be a trillionth of the size of the sun. Possibly less. it would also be a useful way to get rid of nuclear waste.
For our money problem. Kill all mentally retarded people, who will be of no use to society. The government spends millions of dollars a year caring for these people, who will never contribute a penny back. Am I the onyl one who thinks we are wasting money, diverting it from where it really needs to go? And stop trying to help the homeless. They CHOSE that path. If you give them money, they'll most likely go buy drugs.
For our energy problem. Research Anti-Matter. The energy produced from 100 grams of antimatter coliding with 100 grams of matter is much greater than the totla energy of the most powerful nuclear weapon ever detonated, the Tesla Bomb.
fly_boy42 - April 29, 2009 02:39 AM (GMT)
First, no one goes crazy and starts killing people, no. They are already crazy. You see, all of us crazy people have a vast intelligence network with varying levels of connectivity. I'm about as connected as gendreavus to my wifi. You see, every day, some lucky guy (or girl) gets picked to go on a rampage to promote insane awareness.
Second, If you throw the garbage into the sun, you'll anger the crazy people. Some of them live there. However, your idea is basically what japan does only better for the environment. Sure it's a little more expensive, but why not, it definitely wont come back one thousand years from now.
Kill the retarded folk? Texas does that, it's why anubis hasn't come around recently. But if you don't give to the homeless, the crazy people will come to get you, because that's how they raise funds for their MESSAGE RETRACTED
Anti matter's a theory, though the real big bang was actually a giant pinata destroyed by Jesus (different Jesus, not the Jewish one)
The problem is, you probably wont remember any of this post after you read it. they're sneaky like that. I'm pretty sure all you'll remember about this post is that I was talking about jokes, sunshine and lollipops.
DarkSamus - April 29, 2009 02:51 AM (GMT)
Sylux.. I lost respect for you.
Shrander - April 29, 2009 03:11 AM (GMT)
"Well, our world is screwed up. There's no doubt about it. everything about our way of life harms the environment."
Not the world, us. The world isn't screwed up, down, or anyway. Do planting trees hurt the environment?
"Everyday, some one goes crazy and kills somone."
Population control.
"In this thread, propose some solutions, realistic or not. I might as well start"
Were you trying for anything realistic?
"For our garbage problem. Launch it into the sun. I am willing to pay good money to bet that it would do absolutely no damage to any delicate solar balance or whatnot. All of our garbage put together would be a trillionth of the size of the sun. Possibly less. it would also be a useful way to get rid of nuclear waste."
Only takes billions to get a metric ton off the planet. Multiply those billions by how many tons of trash to be rid of from a single country, and the cost is trillions. Let's add in the cost of trying to dig it all up and transport it. That trash and radioactive material may be taking a while, but in billions of years or less for some of it, it will all be good for something again.
"For our money problem. Kill all mentally retarded people, who will be of no use to society. The government spends millions of dollars a year caring for these people, who will never contribute a penny back."
So if you had a child, then when they hit 10 or something, you found out that they were retarded, would you be willing to send them off to be killed? How many would line up themselves or their kids to go get killed, and we aren't going to bring back the holocaust. I don't know how much the government is actually spending on them, but it is a better cause than other things it is spending it on, like prisons. Prisons spend too much money giving prisoners nice comfy beds and tvs, nice recreation and weights rooms, I say cut the funds and put jails back to being the contrete cells with a bed or two and a toilet.
"Am I the onyl one who thinks we are wasting money, diverting it from where it really needs to go?"
No, read my rant about jails.
"And stop trying to help the homeless. They CHOSE that path. If you give them money, they'll most likely go buy drugs."
Really? So if they were college graduates or people who couldn't afford to go to college, and whatever job either type had, closed down or declined them, and they had no way of making money, you are saying they chose to be homeless. You may say that they could go get a job at a fast food place, well, the places aren't required to accept them or pay well above minimum wage, and with how things are these days, minimum wage won't give you enough to live off of by itself. You are saying they all choose drugs and booze when they get cash? No, those are only the stereotyped stupid ones. The ones who actually do a good job living without a home actually put it to good use.
"For our energy problem. Research Anti-Matter. The energy produced from 100 grams of antimatter coliding with 100 grams of matter is much greater than the totla energy of the most powerful nuclear weapon ever detonated, the Tesla Bomb."
Even if it does get cheaper over time, it will still be extremely expensive. Currently it is $62.5 trillion a gram, so for 100, $6.25 quadrillion. How much would you like to donate? Sure it can be powerful, but containment of it is hard enough, but actually using it, that will take ages to make and probably even more expensive. Chances of them using it efficiently in a thousand years is one in a million compared to the chances of there being something that will go wrong and end up destroying up an area equivilent to a state.
Sorry if I am bursting your bubble, just some things I thought that should be pointed out. :|

I'm sure you'd be singing a different tune if your only child was born with Down's Syndrome.
Secondly, I suppose all the college graduates from this year that can't find any jobs just chose to be poor? And all homeless people are drug addicts, of course!
To the rest of your proposals: Most of them are either too far fetched, or far too costly to alternatives that would work much better.
If you want this thread to not be derailed, I would suggest changing it to be for realistic and not extremist solutions to current problems.
fly_boy42 - April 29, 2009 03:49 AM (GMT)
Wait? Was he serious?
Come on, it's less fun that way!
StrafeHunter - April 29, 2009 06:22 PM (GMT)
A. Agreed.
B. Honestly, we have bigger financial drains than retarded people.
C. You would need a PhD in advanced molecular physics to even begin to understand the complexities of antimatter physics and why it is currently impossible. First we should find a feasible way of molecular fusion.
Lucifuga - April 29, 2009 09:33 PM (GMT)
Whatever DarkSamus said.
Seriously, Sylux? Kill the mentally retarded people? What the hell is wrong with you? That sounds like nazi crap to me.
There's a kid at my school with Down's Syndrome. I think he's 8 years old. He has a teacher constantly following him around and keeping him company. He can't even talk. At least he's happy. He's laughing all the time and he plays around like a normal kid. Are you saying he's better off dead? What about his family? I knew his sister.
What you said has offended me. Even if it was a joke, it's not funny.
fly_boy42 - April 29, 2009 10:00 PM (GMT)
It's not exactly nazi, we have proof that retarded kids are inferior. And most of them aren't jews. Just don't let him mate and we'll be fine
Is it legal for people with horrible genetic diseases to have children? I know that it's okay for men with aspergers to have kids (Even though the kid will be born with it)
Shrander - April 29, 2009 10:10 PM (GMT)
Retards and Gypsies were major targets in the halocaust as well and some others I can't remember, just there were more jews out there to be targetted.
Thought of a new pro and con to the anti-matter thing.
Pro:
With the new technology, it would help fuel our space exploration. Currently we are using fusion, but anti-matter is the next step up.
Con:
Like everything else to hit the planet that could be potentially good, it will be used for horrible, horrible things all thanks to man's greed for power.
Lactor - April 29, 2009 10:34 PM (GMT)
Here's my solution to help the world: make politicians stop being idiots and do what is right for their country and the world, not just help themselves. That, and start educating people on how to reason properly. a good amount of problems are caused by people with good intentions, but horrible senses of reasoning.
Sylux125 - April 30, 2009 02:26 AM (GMT)
my god.
I said I wasnt being serious. I understand the implications,a nd that none of my ideas will work. I was jsut saying
that there are always two ways of solving a problem.
The Humitarian one.
And the Other one.
I would really do that
Im just saying.... our world is screwed up. ANd there are viable ways we can fix it.
In fact... the title of this topic is "Modest proposals'
There is a poem entitled "A modest proposal'
Look it up
Anyways... the whole point is Im not bieng serious
Serious suggestions... are a lot mroe boring and... according to politicians....... would be too "expensive" and 'far-fetched"
I can see that our governments do something.
But stil... Im pointing out... its not enough
And to all the people out there... yes I know how expensive anti-matter is. And yes.. i realize its implication as weapons
And... read The Giver. That's basically a Greater Good Society. And Brave New World. Im asking you.. what's your perfect world?

I am incredibly against discrimination, the death penalty, racism, abortion. A life is a life.
Sylux, the fact you brought this up. Not good.

Well, in that case, I apologize for taking your post more serious than it was meant to be. I can understand trying to make allusions in your topic title so far as the body goes...but you need to make your mood more clear when posting subject matter that people would take offensively otherwise.
Especially as far as your second point goes, even when kidding, I find it in poor taste. You didn't point out that you weren't being serious in the original post; you might want to edit that just a bit. Remember, it's particularly hard to tell someone's tone and mood over just text.
fly_boy42 - April 30, 2009 02:46 AM (GMT)
Why do you think there are crazy people who go on killing spees?
There are too many humans. We have to get rid of them somehow, so why not chronic murderers and babies of rape victims?
See? what did I say, he wasn't serious, this is a forum for people between the ages of 13 and 19
Sylux125 - April 30, 2009 03:18 AM (GMT)
I am seriosu though, that if we dont find solutions soon... our next generation will have oceans of mud and parks of trash
Lactor - April 30, 2009 03:54 AM (GMT)
I will admit that the future looks horribly bleak. But that may be what the human race needs right now. After each period of contentment and peace, there has always been a time of suffering, usually because people became too soft and complacent. It would be nice if this wouldn't happen, but I think it is necessary cycle in order to keep people from losing their edge.
Not that I like it. I like being comfortable, and I don't want to lose that. I guess that doesn't make me any better than the rest of the world, but I am human.
Or maybe I've been reading too much Dune...
Metroidude - May 1, 2009 02:41 PM (GMT)
I agree with DS.
What if you found out Miles07 was mentally retarded? Would you kill him?
And believe it or not, Hitler thought anyone who isn't blue eye, blond hair, should die! He even wanted to kill anyone over 50! The crippled, the blind, anyone with a handicap (even a temporary one). Now how would you like that? ever heard of the Movie "Logan's Run"? Thats what they are talking about.
Sad, but true, our society is degrading faster than you can say "Vach Schnell".
Lucifuga - May 1, 2009 03:01 PM (GMT)
Vach Schnell.
Our world will live on for quite some time.

...And Kuro-chan?
Metroidude - May 1, 2009 03:11 PM (GMT)
It's a figure of speech, Einstein!
What about Kuro-Chan?
fly_boy42 - May 1, 2009 09:22 PM (GMT)
most of the ages fall in that group, teenagers go here, and since none of us are into furries and none of us are from shojo mangas, there is no need for drama. Or seriousness.
[Mod note: for crying out loud, are you trying to start a flame war? Paragraph removed.]
StrafeHunter - May 1, 2009 10:07 PM (GMT)
Why is it that any political topic becomes a flame war?
What time is this? 3rd? 4th?
fly_boy42 - May 1, 2009 10:31 PM (GMT)
Why is it that IMMEDIATELY after I talk about not being serious, you all think I'm being serious. Here, I'll even highlight it for you mods, because you are obviously SOO busy with all the events going on in the metroid franchise that you cant understand what someone is trying to say.
Please, I know you types like thinking everything is personal and about you, but come on, LIGHTEN UP!
Read the entire thread, Have anyone on sylux's side ever once been serious? No, because us debating carries about as much importance as two gerbles fighting over who gets to sleep in the corner. We're not science majors, we cant predict the future. Let's leave the seriousness to people who matter, and the fun to the ones who don't.
Metroidude - May 2, 2009 02:07 PM (GMT)
Agreed. But why would we if what we come up with will never be used?
Lactor - May 2, 2009 05:09 PM (GMT)
Because it's a discussion. And I will now continue to discuss.
In my honest opinion, the human race will eventually make the earth utterly sterile. It will become incapable of supporting life, and we will need to find some other planet that is inhabitable. Hopefully we will learn from our mistakes.
I doubt this will happen in any of our lifetimes, but now might be the time to try and prevent this. If we do start changing now, we might be able to salvage somethng. The damage will still be too great, however, and new civilizations will look back at us and shake their heads.
My bet's on the dolphins for the new civilization. If we don't kill them off first.
Metroidude - May 2, 2009 08:20 PM (GMT)
Kinda like the movie "WALL-E".
I think NASA will go for Mars...
Lucifuga - May 2, 2009 08:49 PM (GMT)
Kinda like every post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie ever created.
Screw the dolphins. I say we eat them.
fly_boy42 - May 2, 2009 09:03 PM (GMT)
Here's what we do, get MM to declare MHQ it's own nation, then we build a space station, Building inventions in our space lab in space, we'll end world hunger we’ll make dolphins speak. Sure, we'll have to work through the daytime, spend our nights and weekends, but only to perfect our warrior robot race, building them one laser gun at a time, and we will do our best to teach them about life and what it’s worth
I just hope that we can keep them from destroying the Earth.
Metroidude - May 2, 2009 09:22 PM (GMT)
I agree. We should be our own nation!
Sylux125 - May 3, 2009 12:22 AM (GMT)
*facepalm*A nation of only 40-something people, most of them, under 20, cant build robots... or a space station. call me in 20 years. Mabye then I could do something.
And debating is fun.
Lactor - May 3, 2009 12:47 AM (GMT)
Yeah... if MHQ became it's own nation... well, from what I've seen thus far, we would end up killing eachother off.
Oh, and 150 people would be enough. Why? because 150 is the range of an average human "monkey sphere." Apparently in monkeys, they have a specific amount of other monkeys they can influence, be influenced by, or care about. I believe that number is around 40. For humans its 150. So if you want a community that is going to be as successful as possible, you want small communtities of 150, with a larger government overseeing multiple communtities....
Metroidude - May 3, 2009 05:07 PM (GMT)
you'd be a good president for our new nation!
Lactor - May 3, 2009 06:09 PM (GMT)
No thank you. I don't want to be the person everyone blames when it all falls apart... I prefer to be the person behind the gilded throne.
fly_boy42 - May 3, 2009 08:47 PM (GMT)
Knowing politics, MM will try his best to keep things together, but LoC's secret agenda will ruin everything. He'll start forcing people to live in the station, then he'll sentence MM to death as a scapegoat.
And if that were the case, we'd have to call it gendreavus station
Metroidude - May 3, 2009 09:03 PM (GMT)
Sounds like Hitler.... :(
Lactor - May 3, 2009 10:35 PM (GMT)
Or like the vast majority of power-hungry leaders...
I'll just sit there, shake my head, and become the shady advisor to manipulate things to my own ends.

Gendreavus: We are not using fusion yet.
Fly_Boy42: Heck yes, Jonathan Coulton.

And I was going off something I read, can't remember where though, was saying that shuttles were starting to use some fusion to help get off the ground.
