Title: Luminoth
Description: ilLUMInation, and M(N)oth
Zerchito - May 15, 2009 03:43 PM (GMT)
Now what do you think the Luminoth do look a little like Moths.... Don't they o.O?
Luminoth <------
Or is it just me who are crazy or something O.o?
I mean just look at their heads, they have some sonar like Antennas like the Moths have!
Moth <-------
And another thing. have you noticed the name Luminoth?
The first part "Lumi" is from IlLUMInation
And the second part Noth, is very similar to Moth.
So what do you guys think. Am I crazy or not!?
There is similarities!
StrafeHunter - May 15, 2009 05:14 PM (GMT)
Yes luminoth are based on moths and illumination comes from the latin stem lumi I think...

Yes that's what I thought, Luminoth means some kind of Light Moth.
Illumination is to "Light up" something, I think...
StrafeHunter - May 15, 2009 05:25 PM (GMT)
Hold on, I'll check, I'm not that good at Latin...
Metroidude - May 15, 2009 06:31 PM (GMT)
Darn it... I liked the Luminoth!
But I hate moths!
Except this one kid in my Boy Scout Troop. His nickname is Moth because he likes fire (a little too much!)
Zerchito - May 15, 2009 06:36 PM (GMT)
Haha in your face! :P
But hey Moths are cool you shouldn't not like them o\_/o
EDIT: And Strafe... no one except the Pope is good in Latin =P
Metroidude - May 15, 2009 06:54 PM (GMT)
ok, Here's why I don't feel comfortable around Moths:
I was bike riding, and I was talking. There was a swarm of Moths and I didn't see them.
Can you tell where I'm going? If not:
I swallowed them. That's why I don't like them.
But yes, They're cool; but I just never fell comfortable around them.
I do like them, I'm just not comfortable when they're there in great quantities. Get my Drift?

I guess it's a good thing that there's only one living Luminoth in MP2 then, huh?
Metroidude - May 16, 2009 11:29 AM (GMT)
Actually, there are more than one living luminoth, the others are just in an indestructible hibernation pods. U-Mos is just the only one that speaks with Samus.
Oh, and I don't mind the Luminoth. I can actually see them, they're not so tiny that you're right next to them before you see them.
Ever notice how tall U-Mos is?!
SniperStorm - May 16, 2009 05:34 PM (GMT)
Lumi means Luminescence which means it has some kind of chemical inside the moth that makes it glow.
StrafeHunter - May 16, 2009 06:57 PM (GMT)
Luminescence actually just means giving out light.

By "One living Luminoth in MP2" I meant there's only one living Luminoth that appears in MP2, although now that I think back, more appear in the ending sequence, so I suppose I was wrong whichever way you took my statement. Oops!

You're both right. Luminescence means to give off light, and a chemical is how moths do it.
SniperStorm - May 17, 2009 08:25 PM (GMT)
So i guess that means Lumimoth is a big futuristic moth guy.
Metroidude - May 17, 2009 08:54 PM (GMT)
ummmm... no. You make it sound lame when you say it that way. No offense.
"a large, advanced warior" sounds much cooler.
Strike-Freedom - May 17, 2009 09:29 PM (GMT)
It reminds me of pokemon.
Ursa means bear in german IIRC. Ursa major is a constellation.
And Ursaring is a nighttime bear pokemon.
Nah, I doubt you're going insane. Nice observation skills too btw.

Strike-Freedom: Thanks, and nice observation by you to!

They resemble moths a great deal. Luminous mean "light" which the Luminoth strive to protect on their planet and for their moth like appearences fits the name perfectly. So yeah, I agree the Luminoth look alot like moths.
DarkSamus - May 20, 2009 06:56 AM (GMT)
They're supposed to look like moths, I thought that was friggin' obvious xD
Metroidude - May 20, 2009 11:09 AM (GMT)
actually, I didn't even notice till you brought it up! Poor me... My favorite alien... is now modeled after a friggin' bug...
StrafeHunter - May 20, 2009 05:40 PM (GMT)
Space pirates are bugs too, come to think of it a lot of metroid enemies are...
Metroidude - May 20, 2009 09:50 PM (GMT)
In most metroid games they are.
In some, they're reptiles.
PBafterflaaghar - May 28, 2009 01:52 AM (GMT)
Luminoth is based on the RL animal Lunamoth. Google that crap.
fly_boy42 - May 28, 2009 07:27 AM (GMT)
luminoth
lumicloth
luminacloth
Lumina cloth!?See, you could say it's a lot of things, but it's all still speculation. Too bad no one from retro comes here.
Whatch as I use luminoth to turn a profit!
Luminoth
???
PROFIT!!!
StrafeHunter - May 28, 2009 10:35 AM (GMT)
So FB, does that mean I can get money playing MP2?

Isn't Lunamoths just the same as Moths o.O
PBafterflaaghar - June 5, 2009 06:00 PM (GMT)
Not quite, in the way a lion is as a tiger. They're the same but very different.
fly_boy42 - June 5, 2009 06:17 PM (GMT)
But a lion can breed with a tiger! Can lunamoths breed with regular moths? and what about venomoth?
By the way, Liger, commit to it.and the ing are insurance companies, what does that mean?
Zerchito - June 6, 2009 05:46 PM (GMT)
Aha.... That makes all more sense, Tiger-Lion, Lunamoth-Moth *hum*
And Venomoth is a Pokemon last time I checked, but it must be made up by Venom (Poison) and Moth (Lunamoth o.O?)
