Description: Problems with computer...

anti-prime - June 5, 2009 02:36 PM (GMT)
After having some problems with XP i formatted my computer and reinstalled. Now it's even worse! I need help!

Problems:
Not recognizing any audio devices
Visual lag
Standby is disabled
Some sites involving downloading files to work aren't working. ex: System Requirements Lab

I think it might be when i was fiddling around with the HDD's partitions... Please help!

Not recognising audio devices might be a driver issue. Go to the Device Manager and see if there are any problems there. If you want, I can look at your computer using Remote Assistance to try and help further.

Actually, half the users here are. Ask whoever uses a mac, and they'll tell you it's much better.

My windows is a piece of crap (spent $1500 on it), I have to hit "Start>My Computer>Search" to look for a file I know is there, only for it to tell me the file isn't there. My mac, all I have to do is CMD F and type it in and it will find it for me right away. I have a 1TB HD and it sorts through it faster than micheal jackson goes through kids. It'll tell me where the file is, how much it is (size), when it was made, when it was last opened and which filepath I can find it via, which is useless but nice; because it lets you access it directly. If it can't find it (which it always does) it'll politely apologize and be like "oh we're sorry, I'll send you a hooker on the house" and I can even let it search certain parts of my HD if I know the general area of where the file is. My windows has no clue wtf is going on inside it, and on the Mac that I have that boots into windows, the windows side can't access the Mac hard drive, but the Mac side will access the windows one. Good job there, bill.
Also, Steve Jobs actually wrote the operating system for mac, whereas Bill Gates did not, and merely sued the crap out of his friend who did and got credit for it.

-Dragon Edit: Edited your post. Some people may find your word for Macs offensive, not recommended you use it. Also, this is hidiously off-topic. Didn't we just have a little chat about this? You know better, PB. Shame on you.

Wait? you have to press buttons to bring up your search function? mines right at the bottom of the screen. it doubles as a net search engine.
Look, basically, you're saying that you don't know how to use windows right and that you know how to use macs. it's like saying you know how to use a NES better than a gamecube, thus the NES is better

Ima going to go with driver problems. Learn to drive.
If that doesnt work, I'd say you have a hardware problem, or are going to some real bad sites

none of you are helping... :l

also... windows key+F brings up find and i never had problems with it

You're missing video and audio drivers.
Download this : http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php

and save the information in a text file (or screenshot it) and pm it to me, and I'll find you the drivers.
As for standby, I have no idea. You try pressing shift and seeing if the hibernation button turns into the standby button? I seem to remember it doing that on my laptop before.
And as for that site, you might want to try installing firefox or updating IE. IE versions get very outdated very fast. :P

I love you...

My Windows can access Linux and Mac partitions, not that I have any Mac partitions.

Okay, my bad. Mine can't access Mac partitions. But it could.

Of course Mac users will tell you Mac is better. Especially if they haven't used Windows. And Windows users will tell you Windows is better, especially if they haven't used Mac. I've used both. Windows is better for my purposes. There is no objective superior.

This thread is about Anti and his computer, not Mac vs PC. Get back on topic please.

Dragon Edit: The hell did I just say? No more Half Life discussion, next post that derails this even further will result in a warning or suspension.

Do cool people who play half life too have anything to do with getting aunty-prime his computer back? No, read trogdor's post and move on

No, I'd really say that it would be drivers and plugins, they go away when you reset everything. Like if I were to reformat this laptop, it could no longer use its tablet until I install a new one.
The other way a newly fresh computer can fail is if it has bad hardware, like the sound card on my old PC, it will only go to 30% volume, even if I turn it up all the way, even if I reset everything, it will remain fried. Speaking of fried chips, barbecue flavored sounds good.

Alright I figured out the problems, they were all outdated drivers... problems solved so this forum can be closed or w/e...
