Title: FMoMR (First Metroid Other M Remake!)
Description: Feels like an '80s videogame!

Communist Shark - June 17, 2009 02:29 AM (GMT)
There are metroid games that need remakes and some that don't (Like Metroid Prime Hunters. Nobody likes you). metroid 1 needed a remake, but Nintendo took care of that with zero mission. there is also metroid 2 return of samus, but doctorM64 has that taken care of, and then there was super metroid, but that was taken by octohunter and the fellas at FSMR (and I'm sure it'll turn out to be a fine remake of a great game :)). This is Emp's fangame, not mine. I have added this topic to ask you guys, what improvements would any of you like to see from the original super metroid? would you like some new / more bosses? or how bout items and weapons, like a pie gun or a bucket helmet? Maybe even Super Saiyan Samus who turns into pink Knuckles!!! It's going to be in 7.1D! You can tell how awesome this is going to be because the post entry # is above 9000!

REMEMBER, IF IT ISN'T SO TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED IT FEELS LIKE AN 80's VIDEOGAME, IT AINT FMoMR!

Project Staff:
Emp.rar (Idea maker guy thing man wolf bear pig)
Shrandark (Dimensional Analysist)
Da Shark (Programmer)
Dragoon (Sprite finder)
Waltarus (Sprite Maker, Story Teller)

We're following in the footsteps of another fangame series made by Dragon in the past. Demos for those games will be up shortly. In the meantime, hang in there!
Awesomeness of FMoMR might cause head to explode

Also, this is being made in GM, so no Mac users. Sorry guys. :(

Are you remaking Super or Other M? I'm confused by the title.

Either way...What I'd like to see in a Super remake? More stuff. Bigger areas with more stuff in it. That's pretty much it. The game is almost perfect.

Other M.

Lucifuga - June 17, 2009 02:39 AM (GMT)
How can you remake a game that has not yet been made?

How can you alter time that is already altered?

Lucifuga - June 17, 2009 02:44 AM (GMT)
Through the use of time machines. I've played Chrono Trigger.
But how can you remake a game you know almost nothing about?
If this is a joke, I'm not getting it ;D
Don't take it the wrong way. I think it's an interesting idea. I'm just curious...

That's the fun of it! We have to figure out what the Metroid developers wanted in the game before release and to have them in our remake!

Lucifuga - June 17, 2009 03:07 AM (GMT)
That sure is an unique way of making a game.

Emperor Inc. and related subsidiaries do not approve.

However, we're willing to donate a fraction of our time to this cause.

Yes. We are trying to revolutionize how fangames are made. It's quite exciting in the chatrooms right now.

*coughs and says Flashpoint*

XD

I don't see much point in remaking a game thats not even finished, but it might be interesting to see how this works, so good luck!

I can offer my limited spriting skills and incredibly plotabilites xD

StrafeHunter - June 17, 2009 08:54 AM (GMT)
This looks interesting, if there is anything I can do to help...

If you could make a timeline of general events in MoM (with the start being the end of Super Metroid and the end being the start of Fusion), that'd be great. :D

kenji imatake - June 18, 2009 10:28 PM (GMT)
I can possibly help with something too, but I will be busy with some other things like my job, FSMR, some other little metroid projects, and my own fangame so don't expect me to have something in a few seconds, kay?

Personally, I'd remake Fusion. =3

milescart - October 9, 2009 12:25 AM (GMT)
i'd remake fusion too, but i see were he's going with this, and it's a good idea.

Communist Shark - October 9, 2009 01:47 AM (GMT)
I'm curious -- Why would you want to remake Metroid Fusion?
It's not out of date at all...

AmyYatesRIP - October 9, 2009 12:58 PM (GMT)
Although Fusion introduced ledge grabbing, ZM perfected it, free to aim, no more using the arm cannon to cling to the ledge. Plus the ability to shinespark in MB form. That too, ZM added. Aside from that, It'd be cool to see a Corruption style 3D remake of Fusion. (Imagine the Nightmare in 3D! :samus: )

Wataru - October 10, 2009 01:24 AM (GMT)
ZM = fail. Fusion = perfection.

Of course, anything that could make Fusion better would be awesome. I hope the next handheld game will use similar graphics, I LOATHE ZM SPRITES.

Thank you!
Fusion is my absolute favorite Metroid game, and most people keep telling me it's one of the low ones out of the series.

Also... I'm pretty sure you could aim on ledges in Fusion... I remember fighting the first boss using that technique..

kenji imatake - October 10, 2009 07:49 PM (GMT)
well at least some people agree fusion was great. It's my favorite metroid game and I usually see people saying it's the worst. You can aim on ledges in fusion, I have the sprite sheet and I have seen the sprites for them.

I love Fusion's art style....

I'll consider making a 3D Remake of it when Project Prime is complete. I'll already have the engine built, so might as well use it!

Dragon - October 11, 2009 06:39 PM (GMT)
I think Super Metroid has a far superior art style compared to the other 2D Metroids. Dispite the Super Nintendo color limitations, they managed to produce a very dark and griddy looking world. Compared to Fusion and MZM sprites, I even think Super Metroid looks far more detailed as well. I suppose Fusion was a step in the right direction compared to MZM, but I'd like to see the old style of Super Metroid come back.

SM looked like crap, even when compared to other SNES games.

A perfect example is GF Kennons SM hack, where the graphics are on-par with the GBA graphics when it comes to tiles.

IMO Fusion trumped SM in style, and ZM ruined everything.

Then again, a lot of Fusion's sprites are SM rips.

Pirate_126 - October 12, 2009 01:26 PM (GMT)
Super Metroid rulez!! It has some of the best graphics in any Metroid game. You know, Zurginator, it seems like you hate the graphics in every 2D Metroid game. Fusion was good, but I thought it was too short. My favorite 2D games are Super Metroid, and Zero Mission. I'd love to see a SM remake on DS. I think the DS could handle it. Enough buttons to do it. Bottom screen would be a map, top would be the game.

Lawl I hope that was sarcasm.

SM was good, yes, but it's graphics suck compared to Fusion, or dare I say, ZM (although it has better style than ZM in a sense...)

And no, MP3:E has the best graphics of any Metroid game. ;P

Fusion is plenty long if you get all of the crap, and much longer than SM. As for a SM remake: Yes please. I just hope they rework the controls as they were a little sloppy in SM.

Now flame me for criticizing one of the best games ever made. :P

I have to agree with Dragon and Pirate.
Super 'Troid's graphics were great.
They may be "old, low-detail graphics", but they 1: were from the SNES time-frame, and 2: do an excellent job helping push a theme of darkness, isolation, and dirtiness.
Zero mission... it seemed like they were trying to make everything too clean and cheery.
Fusion, the stuff fit, it made it seem dark, but clean and dirty, depending on the area of the station, wild-life, or metalic areas with no plants or soil. It did it's job, but I still like Super's more.

Even for the SNES, they weren't all that great. I think even Super Mario World beats them, because it at least had a good style.

Then of course, you always have:

Super Troid > That
Super had a great style. Mario's is too cheery and bright.

Yeah, DK had graphics to beat them all at the time, they were the main ones to use 3D models as sprites efficiently at the time besides the arcade stuff like Mortal Kombat, makes me wonder how the heck the SNES was able to run that many colors at once.

SM didn't have style. It tried realistic, but with too few colors. Realistic =/= style, just like in Crysis' case.

SMW had great style, it fit the game well, and I love that game.

Fusion was no where near realistic, but it had style. ZM was the same, although it's style sucked.

Prime actually had a fair bit of style, and I'm finding it hard to recreate that same style.

Anyways, back to the subject this topic is about: How the heck is this going to work?
