Title: Bosses that should have been

SniperStorm - June 17, 2009 08:43 PM (GMT)
You know in the Metroid series that there have always been innovative bosses but if you could what kind of boss would you make? Mine would be a thing called the Meccaroid. Part robot, part metroid.

Phazon Corrupted Ridley... I can see it now.

Omega Ridley.

Phazon Kraid would have been nice, hell, even Kraid in any Prime game would have kicked major butt. Kraid arising from a pool of Phazon, anyone?

StrafeHunter - August 22, 2009 08:58 AM (GMT)
Dark Kraid would have been cool. You they cold probably have replaced the chykka with him.

Metroidude - August 22, 2009 11:58 AM (GMT)
NO! I loved Chykka boss!
I'd probably make... another Metroid Prime... Only weaker... or:
Some guy that spawns normal enemies and can possess them at will, and you have to kill the possesses one to kill the boss (multiple time, of course!). It'd be kinda like an Ing.
Oh, that's it! A GIANT HUNTER ING!!!

StrafeHunter - August 22, 2009 12:46 PM (GMT)
Thinking about it, Prime 2 could be extended with new areas and bosses.

Metroidude - August 22, 2009 03:36 PM (GMT)
That.... Would... Be... AWESOME!!!!!!! It really needs it... Prime 2 was my favorite... That's just my opinion...

salsa911! - August 22, 2009 04:39 PM (GMT)
Phazon Corrupted Loviothins or whatever they're called from MP3

You mean Leviathans, Right? Well, they are already corrupted, incase you didn't notice! lol They ARE the corruption! lol
Do you mean more Leviathan bosses? Yeah, that would be cool.

salsa911! - August 22, 2009 08:28 PM (GMT)
Er, no, wait. Not the Leviathans. Those wierd dinosaur things with 4 arms in the place in Bryyo that has the Golem statue in the ground.. The place where you get your grapple beam. So Phazon enhanced 4 armed dinosaurs.

Meteorinx
Location: Alinos
Areas: Alinos Perch, High Ground, Alinos Gateway, Council Chamber (upper)
Status: Strong Enemy/Boss

Meteorinxes are very wondrous predators that hunt for prey on Alinos by hovering in its atmosphere using thousands of microscopic wings that flutter at the speed of light. When the Meteorinx detects a possible prey below using astounding sonar, its wings stop and it plummets to the planet's surface. The Meteorinx has a rocky body with a spiky titanium shell, the spikes that cover its body are a comboination of orange and yellow that glow occasionally. It has sharp teeth and three blue eyes. The creature is mobile on two legs, that give the creature incredible jumping abilities. The Meteorinx attacks with fiery breath, fiery impact shockwaves and lunging. Finally, the creature has roar that can create temporary dust storms in Alinos Perch, High Ground and Council Chamber (upper). At Alinos Gateway, the Meteorinx use a powerful plasma blast while standing in lava.

A large Meteorinx acts as a bonus boss at Alinos Perch after the player gets 100% completion and has 30 hunter kills with the Magmaul.

I think a HUGE phazon infused boss on any future Metroid would be awesome.
I mean HUGE like... 3 times larger than Amorbis and Quadraxis combined.

That'd be an awesome battle.
Maybe Other M will deliver.

StrafeHunter - November 21, 2009 02:15 PM (GMT)
Metroid is famous for it's huge, screen filling bosses, but we do need something bigger than ever!

DeProgrammer - November 21, 2009 02:21 PM (GMT)
Old topic suddenly revived. I'll join in. :P

All you people can think about is size? How about gameplay mechanics?

I'd like to see a boss that requires you to divert its own weapons in order to damage it. Say it fires a seeking missile at you, so you run around to the other side of it, and the missile hits the boss and does some damage.

In a 3D game, perhaps the boss fires short bursts of bullets. The room has a few shields facing outward around the boss, and if you hide behind one, it won't shoot... but if you run between them, and it starts firing a burst just as you duck behind a shield, it can't stop that burst and it'll shoot some bullets at the shield, which bounce back and hit it.

This is actually an idea I'm exploring in Rendezvous Delano.

Hmmm... I'm not sure if this kind of programming is possible yet, but as a midway boss, or the guardian before the final boss. It would be a humanoid robot and it would scan you, adapt your armor and weapons. SO basically your fighting another Samus. And that is easily done. However, the part that im not sure how'd you program, would be that, up until this point, the game has analyzed your playing style, such as if you use the Plasma Beam more, or you may enjoy using the morph ball, or you simply stick to the basic charge beam. In addition to weapon preferences, this hypothetical boss would also adopt your actual playing style, such as if you jump a lot, or you sit and take the damage while blast out your own heavy damage, or whatever tricks you use.
So basically... you are fighting you. Not sure if that makes sense... but i would like to fight that kind of boss. or a boss who's fighting style has been adapted to counter your own.

Phazon's gone, remember, it would have to take place before prime.

Until then, you can still have the giant phazon infuzed space pirate you fight for the phazon suit

Metroid doesnt have enough joke bosses. Make more of those.

Like the beserker lord?

salsa911! - November 22, 2009 06:18 PM (GMT)
Maybe some big giant underwater squid or something. Or that monkey guy from Land of the Lost. (You have to see that movie)

actually, that wouldnt be all that hard. remeber how MP3 counted the amount of total shots you did in the game? well, if you just split that among the different weapons, it would be easily done. and with new games with dynamic gameplay like Silent Hill Shattered Memories, this might come soon, even if not in a metroid game.

a boss that i would have found absolutely epic?

ok. the first ridley battle in MP3 was the best. falling down a chute, while struggling to beat him before you hit the core of the planet. that was amazing.

but what samus needs, is a battle in deep space. where the only land you have is the asteroids around you. which can be knocked around by you and the boss. which flies around alot. which will pick up these rocks and chuck them at you. which you can send carreening back.

that would be good in a third person enviroment like MoM's...
