Title: Ecliption
Description: A dreaded dark chaos has awakened ...
Axion - February 12, 2006 01:04 AM (GMT)
ECLIPTIONUpdate [November 8th, 2008]:ECLIPTION IS OFFICIALLY ON HIATUS.
Unfortunately I don't have time to work on this project. I do have quite a bit done, it is in the 1/4 finished stage, but because of my job, my social life, and other projects that are more short term than Ecliption, I have to put this game on hold.
Don't be alarmed though. I will NOT be canceling the game. No way. I have put too much work into it. I will pick it up again around the begining of 2009. I will find some time to post the latest concept art, but other than that, don't expect any updates until around January or so.
Thanks again for all the support!
Update [September 12th, 2008]:Hm. Well, I regret to inform everyone that I will not be participating in this years NCFC. Life is just way too busy right now. I am working on a lot of stuff for my graphic design company, and I am still also working at Best Buy full time. I hardly have time to eat and sleep. I have done a lot though, just not with Ecliption.
I have several things in the making right now as far as progress goes on this game, but the ideas will just have to wait for execution until my life slows down a bit, or until I discover a way to never have to sleep again.
This is a little off topic, but, does anybody remember Mech Warrior 2? It was really my first PC game ever. And I loved it to death. I really REALLY want to get the Source SDK from Valve, and remake the entire game on the Source Engine. And of course, use the same music. That was the most awesome part. I ripped all the tracks from the game .ISO .. if anybody wants them just let me know. Also, just FYI, the game won't run on anything but Windows 95, so don't bother to try downloading and playing it, because unless you have an old machine it won't work.
I think I am going to scour the internet in search of a machine that has the right specs and hardware to play MW2. Can't cost too much, right? Probably like 50 bucks. Sad how fast technology digresses in value.
Update [July 11th, 2008]:Well holy geemers. It has been a WHILE since I have done any viable work on Ecliption. But with the announcement of this years NCFC, it has summoned me to get my butt in gear and start churning stuff out for the next phase of development for this game. A couple of things in this update.
First off, some info on the new engine. I have been working (near fruitlessly) to get the Hydren Engine high off the ground, like .. to figuratively say, launch it into space .. and trust me, the road has harsh. Working with the physics of particles, destructible environments, adding in water elements (gotta compete with Metroid SR-388, their water looks AMAZING), as well as some actual enemy AI (not just crazy wild super fast zombies) in a 2d environment is not as easy as it first seemed to me. Programing is really starting to bog me down, so that is why over the past few months I have been working with concept and design.
Concept was the first thing to tackle. Storyline, upgrades, enemies, bosses, level design, music, controls .. I have a notebook full of stuff. Most of it will not make production, but there are a few cool ideas that I have decided to keep for the final cut. Real reason I want to narrow everything down is because I know for a fact that I cant produce a massively epic game, so I want to stick to the heart and soul of Metroid - the environments, the puzzles, and the evolving story. I don't want it to come across like the single player aspect of Hunters did. No way.
Now I am moving onto the design aspect of the game. Art, textures (tiles, rather), objects, enemies, and of course, the Hunter herself.
Enemies is first on my list. Over the next few weeks, I will be posting some concept art for the various creatures and bosses that I have conceptualized in my tattered notebook full of scribbles and sketches. These initial drawings will not be what you see, rather, refined versions that were done on the DS in program called Colors!. I will be using this program to do all the concept art, as well as any cut scene images (if there are any cut scenes) for Metroid Ecliption.
For more on Colors!, go to
here.

More info and screen shots on the new engine in a week or two!

Update [August 8th, 2007]:Official Game Intro:
| QUOTE |
The Galactic Federation has been investigating an anomalous obliteration of a deep space Galactic Federation outpost known as Daedrika, on the planet Syrion. The research conducted at Daedrika was classified and became completely covered up by top GF officials. What happened at Daedrika is still unclear, and the outpost now lies deep out of Federation territory. Several squads of Federation Marines have all ready been wiped out by Space Pirate battle cruisers before reaching their destination, and the final squad which made it to the planet lost communication with headquarters and is presumed dead.
Key documents, items, and technological advancements need to be recovered before they fall into the wrong hands. You and your squad of special operative marines are being sent to Daedrika to investigate the events that took place on Syrion, recover specific key items, and finally evidence of Galactic Federation presence.
Do you accept this mission? |

Update [April 17th, 2007]:Major update.
Here is a screen shot taken from the engine. This is not a mock up, its an actual in game screen shot of .. not a demo, not a build .. but from the first
level of the game. Yeah. This is the farthest I have ever gotten. This shot may bring up a few questions .. so ask away ..

Here are some screen shots of the
old beta of Metroid Dreadscape.

Daedrika's docking bay.

More ... docking bay ...

duuuuuuuuuuuuuude, awesome, really likeing the feel of of the game, though i say.. there are a couple spots you goto but cant get out, and to try to get out of said places, i needed my beloved walljump, just a suggestion.
Axion - February 12, 2006 01:15 AM (GMT)
Ah yes, the wall jump ...
I have had a few problems with coding that, but I will work on it and see if I can incorperate it into the game.
And, oh, those "said" areas you get stuck in ... heh, they are supposed to be that way. I am gonna put acid or something down there.
Did you download the Hi Fi or Lo Fi version?
Shigeru - February 12, 2006 01:50 AM (GMT)
Pretty neat. I think it has lots of potential. ;)
Sim Bot - February 12, 2006 02:43 AM (GMT)
hi-fi all the way. Like i said, its a really good game you have shapeing up.
Dragon - February 12, 2006 03:02 AM (GMT)
Pretty awsome so far, keep up the great work!
Anubis - February 12, 2006 03:11 AM (GMT)
Nice creapy feeling. Pottential, oui.
Demonise69 - February 12, 2006 05:07 AM (GMT)
This game is very good i love the feel of it
you want help with sprites? Im there
Axion - February 13, 2006 12:36 AM (GMT)
Yeah, sprites are the main thing that I need some help with, next to tiles. I have a friend who was working on tiles, and I kinda picked up where he left off, but I need most of my time to program in the components (like levels and enemies) of the game.
And it has a creepy feeling, huh? Awesome. That is totally what I am going for. I am planning on creating an environment demo to demonstrate the styled environments of the game ...
As for an update on the build demo, expect one tomorrow.

Emperor - February 13, 2006 07:45 PM (GMT)
I'm likeing it....a lot, but how do you get up here???
miles07 - February 14, 2006 08:45 PM (GMT)
I'll beta-test the final version! ME LIKE! ME LIKE!
But it so fweeeakyyyyy :ph43r: ...
Axion - February 15, 2006 03:13 AM (GMT)
You are not supposed to get back up there, and there is a reason for that ... but anyways I will update the build demo soon, and upload another little demo later tonight. Yall should like it. I am glad everybody thinks its so freaky, that is what I was going for.
Emperor - February 15, 2006 02:12 PM (GMT)
I kind of thought that but oh well.
I can help with spriting or tiles anyone is fine.
Axion - February 16, 2006 01:51 AM (GMT)
Well, as I was working on the newest demo, which is just a bunch of confusing and scary rooms with things to fight (very fast paced, might I add), I got the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH! Out of nowhere! Oh well. Hopefully I will have it up for yall tomorrow.
miles07 - February 16, 2006 04:13 PM (GMT)
Need music? Sprite sheets for Samus? I have some if you need them.
Gendreavus - February 17, 2006 01:52 AM (GMT)
Wow...just wow...I started playing, and...wow...I got stuck right away (fell down one of those pits you can't get out of with a zombie at the bottom), but it was still amazing...oh, and my little brother told me to tell you that it's a bloody game. Oh well.
*vanishes*
Axion - February 18, 2006 11:08 AM (GMT)
Bloody ... yes, quite bloody for a Metroid game, though being so old school and side scrolling bit like, I figured that people wouldnt mind too much. Plus thats only on a couple of levels. You have to remember that I am eighteen years old, so I am used to more mature games (such as Half Life 2, Quake 4, and FEAR) and they influence the games I create. Sorry ...
I guess if this game were to have a rating, it would be T for Teen .. hehe.
Gendreavus - February 18, 2006 08:44 PM (GMT)
That's fine with me, my brother just wanted me to say it. I've got nothing against blood in games.
*vanishes*
Anubis - February 18, 2006 09:19 PM (GMT)
I love the idea of blood in the game it will add street cred to Samus, add some spaceship drive bys and maybe some phazon dealing in the streets.
MaxPwnage - February 19, 2006 01:22 AM (GMT)
I like it. It's cool, and creepy the way Fusion tried to be, yet failed... They shoulda hired you for that aspect B)
Axion - February 19, 2006 10:26 PM (GMT)
Thats awesome that you would say that. I would have loved to have worked on Metroid Fusion. It would have scared the crap out of people if I was on the developers team. Oh yes. Hehehe ...
ANYways. Working on getting that small multi room fast paced build demo for yall. And the forums are nearing completion.
miles07 - February 22, 2006 08:56 PM (GMT)
We await this...Dreadscape you have created. You surpass everything creepy that the rest of us can dish out in a Metroid game...
BTW, why would both Primes be rated T? There's no blood in them (at least, not as much as Dreadscape), and there isn't any violence, swearing, or sensuality...
MaxPwnage - February 22, 2006 11:45 PM (GMT)
It's T because its ThreeD....
Therefore, the arm cannon is more realistic (to n00bs) and can spark violence, according to some people.
MetroidMaster1914 - February 23, 2006 01:35 AM (GMT)
I must say, there are many awsome aspects to this game; the plot, the engine, the "creepyness factor", and the credibility. I look forward to anymore progress on this game. It has the full support of my resources.
^_^
miles07 - February 23, 2006 04:17 PM (GMT)
I want to help! PLEEZ! I beg you, give me something to do! I'm out of a job right now, so I have time to help! LET ME HELP YOU!
PM me if you need anything, Pyxel.
Axion - February 24, 2006 10:13 PM (GMT)
Thanks guys for the support!
Miles, if you have any tile sheets, that is the primary thing I am needing at this moment. This actually goes out to anybody with tiles ...
I am currently designing and laying out the levels right now.
With the length of the game, and the size of the levels, I may have to split this game up into several parts. There are alot of powerups so far ..
Expect a demo update within the few hours.
miles07 - February 27, 2006 04:11 PM (GMT)
What kind of tilesheets do you need? PM me with ideas!
Axion - March 6, 2006 01:05 AM (GMT)
Hey guys, check out the link to Metroid Dreadscape at the bottom of the forum.
I will be putting updates and such there.

Well help on a game that I dreamed of go to ''just an idea''. But that's off topic...sorry.
I can't help you on dreaadscape,I'm to crappy.
miles07 - March 8, 2006 04:10 PM (GMT)
I've just joined the DreadScape forums. Looks cool! A little bit better than MHQ in design, I'm sorry to say...
Kraid 2 cool - March 8, 2006 08:02 PM (GMT)
Sadly but true...It DOES look better...
MetroidMaster1914 - March 9, 2006 01:01 AM (GMT)
Well, seeinf as how I put this skin on in JUNE OF 2004, I would think that better skins have come out since then...
Oh yes, and BTW, He also has CUSTOM BUTTONS on his forum...
*points to board image re-design topic*
Axion - March 9, 2006 03:38 AM (GMT)
Yeah, about that ..
Hey MM, I said you could use the ones I sent you on MHQ if you wanted. They match, ya know? Lol, I just liked em so much I had to use them on my forum.
Update on the game:
A couple new screen shots from the demo that I am going to release fairly soon.
I have all most completed the Scan Visor with full scanning capabillity of important objects and creatures and such.
Check out the topics starter (first) post to see the new screens.
Kraid 2 cool - March 9, 2006 08:38 PM (GMT)
Great! You too, seem to making good progress.
Axion - March 11, 2006 01:56 PM (GMT)
Hey guys, I added some new screen shots, all from the new demo.
Which is also posted.
Check it out. It is the a beta of the second area (though the first, Daedrika, is not entirely that large). I dont think I want to give the whole first level away so I am going to give small samples of other areas in the game, starting with this one.
Go to the topics first post for the screen shots and demo download.
dreadmaster - April 24, 2006 04:03 AM (GMT)
^_^ I love it Ice beam at the start rezibits from mp2e and omega suit. awsome game but you need to add the wall jump! *please validate me on the dreadscape site, pyxel*
Axion - April 27, 2006 09:01 PM (GMT)
Valadate? I guess I have valadation set on. Sorry about that. Let me go fix it.
And yeah, I am working on the walljump. Some small problems keep coming.
dreadmaster - April 27, 2006 09:21 PM (GMT)
It still says I am not validated. and I made a site
here that needs members and loads of details.
Kraid 2 cool - April 29, 2006 08:54 AM (GMT)
DUDE! YOU'RE SO FREAKING AWSOME! This most be like the creapiest metroid game ever! Wohoo!
